What to Do?

So i'm fairly annoyed. After waiting for 3 months for my car to arrive, i got "the call" last night from the dealership. My car is in. However, there is a catch. I noted to the sales guy when i bought the car, that i didn't want anything but single digit mileage on the vehicle.

Yesterday's call was to inform me that 1. the car was in but 2. it had been delivered to the wrong dealership about 60 some miles away (lie?) so they had to go pick it up and drive it back. As a result the car (which they said had 8 miles on it at the other dealership) has now close to 70.

so i'm completely pissed off. my concern is that the car has been test driven, ragged on, whatever and PRECISELY why i wanted the car with single digit mileage, which doesn't seem unreasonable given that i ordered the car.

Do i refuse delivery? Ask for a discount on the car? Ask for a bunch of freebies? Has anyone had to deal with anything similar? I am afraid that they have been test driving the car and are using the "it went to another dealership" to cover their ***.

My car, although it not was special ordered, it was reserved to me in transit (on the boat). The car had 12 miles on it upon delivery. That wasn't a big deal to me since 3 of those miles were used to test drive it at the factory in Japan.

I know that's not 60. There's always no harm in asking for additional freebies but are you fine with waiting another 3 months for the car? I doubt they'll go the discount route but you may be able to get some mats or something from them.

Mine had 170...

Its a brand new car, I dont think someone could hurt it if they drove 70 miles with the pedal on the floor the entire time. If its THAT fragile, I dont want it. Thats just my opinion though...

WHY DIDN'T THEY FLAT-BED IT!?!?! .

Forget about the mileage. You don't know IN WHAT MANNER they drove it over!

I would be pissed as hell.

I would be pissed too. That's a tough call.

Couple of things could've happened to the car:

1- Driven Hard
2- Rock chips/damage
3- Repaired- I've heard stories of brand new cars getting repainted for damages during delivery (bumpers, door, etc.) without the dealer disclosing it.

I would carefully examine the car. I would then negotiate the price down (at least $500 off depending on how good your deal is).

did you get that part of the deal in writing from the salesman? if not, then unfortunately you don't really have a leg to stand on.

BUT, if you approach them with a reasonable demeanor, you might be able to work out some sort of minimal compensation.

yeah, if it isn't in writing then you may have a tough time. you can always refuse and order a new one. kind of a pain in the *** though.

I would be pissed, but probably not enough to reorder the car. But I wouldn't call you a fool if you refused the car and ordered again.

Keep in mind that they do respect cars at most dealers, often the pickup guy is just an old man and he could care less about the car. Ask them who picked up the car. The service guys have all probably driven the car already, I'm sure they went past 4K, but I doubt they took a detour through back roads and pressed the car any, and I doubt they went too much over the speed limit.

Your car is special, but it is just another G35, it's not like they havn't seen 100 of them this month.

I would be pissed, express my pissed-off-ness. and request reasonable compensation. then make a decision.

do you trust the dealer too? are they respectable?

Oh and, you are buying the car, not leasing it right?

i bet it was a dealer trade and they didn't mention that...

easy way to check- look at the "dealer of origin/delivery" on the window sticker. is it your dealer?

personally, i don't care about miles on the car. but that's just me. i just care about whether it's got chips or dings, etc. it's really your call whether it's a problem or not so you have to decide that.

Sorry I know where you are coming from but get over it. If the car is in perfect shape then the 70 miles shouldn't be a big deal. Besides you're going to do that in one day I'm sure.

For years I've seen cars being driven from one dealer to another going down the highway and I've never seen any of them being beat on. In fact they were driving too slow. On top of that most of these drivers look like they are over 70 years old.

Your car is here, time to enjoy it!

while i agree with you 100%, it's his car and his decision... personally i wouldn't give a hoot (and didn't, as my car was dealer traded and arrived with 69 miles on the odo).

Wow- I am glad I am not the only one THAT consumed by my car. I was starting to worry a little bit. If its scratched or chipped, thats an issue whether is has 0 or 1000 miles on it. If its still peach, drive it home....

mine was a dealer trade too, most of the miles were driving it to the dealership the night I bought it.
