Paddle w/ Auto or 6MT?????
Paddle w/ Auto or 6MT?????
I test drove both, and cant really decide! The kid in me wants just a 6spd, but the paddles seemed pretty damn smooth and it actually felt faster with the paddles?? (was hard to get used to this damn clutch lol) Any one here with a 6mt regret it and wish they got the Auto w/ Paddles?? I drive my moms M alot and love just bein able to sit back and chill, but i feel with the paddles i can pretty much do both, control the car on my own and just put it in D mode whenever i wanna just lay back...what made you guys decide?? I know some of the guys with the 6MT are having problems with the clutch in 1st and second...anyways, thanks....
The ultimate control and involvement is with the 6-spd.
That being said... the execution of the 6-spd is sub par for this car. The clutch take-up and vibrations thru the shifter are not in-line with the refinement of the rest of the car.
The automatic is a good compromise. It's smooth, fairly responsive with many options to entertain the driver.
It will also make the car more marketable when the time comes to upgrade.
The performance difference is minimal as is the difference in mpg.

If I could fit in the coupe, I would have gotten that with the 6spd...
But I don't, and this is really my DD so I went with the auto. I have been happy with it and it still lets you "play" when you want. You just have to learn the trans a bit. Plus, the sport mode is pretty darn good on its own, ie it downshifts and rev-matches pretty darn well. I have been very happy with my Auto (never thought I would say that). Plus, if you do any amount of city driving it really is nice.

If you have doubts, then the 6MT is probably not for you.
If you are the kind that wants to "chill" when driving, the 6MT is definitely not for you !!!
I hear ya on the clutch - but you get used to it ... I felt the same way when I test drove - its much better now

I had the same dilemma and went with the 6MT. I have never regretted it. There is just something about using a clutch that I would have really missed with the auto/paddles.
I was concerned about driving the 6mt in the Bay Area of CA traffic, but it has been a none issue for me.

- D - "standard" auto, responds to throttle inputs only
- DS - "sport auto", responds to throttle inputs only, will hold a gear longer, downshift faster (I think), etc.
- Manual mode (shifter) - driver control of shifting with stick
- Manual shifting (paddles) - ditto but with the paddles
