I-Key low battery warning

Well, turns out there is a low battery warning for the i-key. However, it's useless.

I went to start my car Monday morning and it wouldn't do a thing. I got the "No Key" warning on the dash. I got my other key, and luckily the car did start, and I was able to get to work.
I did some investigating, and it was merely a dead battery in the i-key. I bought a battery from CVS, and everything worked as expected.
Now, a day later, every time I start my car, the i-key low battery warning is displayed on the dash for about 30 seconds.

This makes absolutely no sense. I would have loved to see this warning before the battery died, and potentially stranded me. Now that I have a new battery in there, I really don't want to see the warning.

What gives???

Sounds like either a delayed response or, could the battery from CVS be old?

I was wondering about that. The only date on the package was the expiration date. it is 2017. Don't batteries have a 10 year life from the date of manufacture? This would make the battery fairly new.

Maybe a button was held down or accidentally pressed for a long time while it was in your pocket? That could drain the battery fairly fast.

New update: My key is now dead again. I was able to start the car this morning using the low battery port in the IP.

Maybe that battery that I bought at the local CVS was bad/old?! I guess I'll go get another after work today. Hopefully my car will start...

I'm thinking you should take your key to the dealer and find out if they can check it for a short or a button that is registering as pressed when it's not. That sounds really weird that you would go through yet ANOTHER battery.

I don't get it.....

How long have you owned your 2007? Odd that you had the replace a "battery" on the I-Key.

Have you ever charged the I-Key from the car? (The little slot where you insert the I-Key)

This slot is not a charger. It does is a high-intensity scan of the key, in case the battery gets low.

I bought my car in February. This will make the 2nd battery change in less than a month.

when I bought my car .... the un informed sales man told me the slot was a charger for the I-key... you think they would at least read the manuals....

One more thing that is certain, besides death and taxes, is that a car salesman will tell you ANYTHING.

more like an unknowledged salesman will tell you anything

it's the dead key slot -- the G's and M's have it in case your battery does die. won't charge it but can tell you if you have to replace it or not.
