Intelligent Key and Vehicle Theft

Hello all. First post and soon to be occupant of a G35x. I have so many random questions about the car but am very curious about how safe the G is from theft because of the Intelligent key system. Can the G be started if someone breaks into it and there is no Intelligent key around? Can someone else's key ever be programmed to work with my vehicle without my consent? Will the system change the code each time I arm and disarm the alarm like on the Lexus? Thanks

The car won't start without the key inside. There are a few zones outside where the key is recognized so the doors/trunk can be opened, but other than that the car knows when there's no key (and it lets you know) and won't start without it.

The lock/unlock works with rolling codes just like every other modern car out there, so there shouldn't be a need to worry about somebody "grabbing" your code out of the ether.

And as far as reprogramming goes, they can be reprogrammed by the dealer, but then again so can every other key out there...

if you start your car and leave the car with the key and the car is still running, can someone drive off in it, Actually I know they can as we tried this, but any idea how far they can go, will the car eventually shutoff, is it a distance thing or a time thing if it shuts off?

The car beeps and tells you there is no key if you start driving it away hopefully it does something else.

The car will say No Key and beep when you close the door, but it will keep running.

I handed it over to the car wash guy once and forgot I had the key in my pocket. The car was running the whole time through the car wash and when they drove it out to the front. I went to drop off the keys since I was going to Wendy's while it was getting detailed.

i tested this too. the car, no matter the distance, DOES NOT SHUT OFF with no key. just, once it's off, there's no key, it isn't going back on.

a fob can be programmed with your frequency by anyone with the tools and know how. however, they need either a) one of your fobs or b) that little silver tag in the big owners book. that has your frequency on it. i suggest if you havent already, put it somewhere safe in your house if you drive around with the manual.

You can still lock/unlock it though, either through the door button or the fob. I do this when it's really hot and I go to the gas station or something... leave the car running with the AC on and lock it, go inside and get whatever I gotta get, and don't have to worry about somebody jacking me.

I can't believe people that leave the car running with the keys inside at a gas station... that's just dumb.

But regardless, only caveat about doing this is that you have to listen for the lock or test the doors... the blinkers won't do anything when the car is running if you lock/unlock this way, so you don't get visual confirmation.

Glad you asked this. I have a loaner today and drove around the block without the fob and to my amazement it kept running!?!
