I got a couple question about the intelligent key...are these actually keys with buttons on it (like the Scion Tc) or is it like a keyless entry remote fob like some of the new avalons with the push button start? Also how many intelligent keys do you get when you buy the G? Thanks in advance.

It is just a fob, not a key with buttons and you get two with the car.

to add to that - it's actually a fob that also has buttons should you want to use them

But, there is a key inside of the fob. Their is a switch that lets you slide it out.

There is no place to enter a key for the ignition in the 07 sedan. The slide out key is for locking the pass-through to the trunk, and locking the glove compartment for valet purposes. You slide the key out of the fob when you give the fob to the valet; that way they cannot gain access to the glove compartment nor the trunk.

It would be nice if when you have the fob in valet mode that it would disable the center stack (radio and monitor) and restrict the car from going faster the 25.

I just ordered my G35 yesterday and was curious about the key fob.. Something I didn't test out.

How do you lock the car when you leave the car? Does the car sense that you are more than 3 feet away and auto-lock, or do you have to reach into your pocket and use the fob to lock the doors?

It won't automatically lock - you either press the button on the door handle or use the fob button. If you use the handle it will chirp to comfirm, if you use the fob the horm will sound or you can change the settings so that the lights flash (no horn)

to clarify, it beeps electronically akin to Lexus... which is a good thing. hopefully there is a way to hack the system to beep when using the fob. horn chirps are very... antiquated.

I think you'll probably use the door button more often than not. After having the 07 loaner for a few days now, I don't even reach into my pocket anymore. It's going to suck going back to my 06...

From what you guys are saying it reminds me of the system used in the Prius. The Prius remote Fob has a small key that slides out from the side of the Fob that is used to open the drivers door and trunk. And under the "push button start" button there is a slot where you insert the Fob to start the car after pressing the button. I take it from looking at the infiniti website that this aspect is also the same. Anyways, thanks everyone for your input. This is one of the reasons why I am looking more towards an 06 rather than an 05 coupe.

I'm not familiar with the prius, but from the description here, I'd say the G35 system is distinctly different in that the the fob never leaves your pocket - just push the handle button and the door unlocks, get in and push the start button - that's it.

There is a slide-out key and a slot in the car but those are both for specific circumstance - key loses power, valet parking

How? There is no hole in the door for the key to go into? I don't *think* I have missed seeing one.

The mechanical key can be used to unlock the door, raise all 4 windows, and lock & unlock the glovebox and trunk pass-through. Yes, there is a traditional door lock keyhole in the driver's door handle. If your fob battery is weak and won't unlock the doors, use the mechanical key to do so, put the fob in the dashboard port, and start the engine.
