Question about Intelligent key

Today i test drove a 07 6MT while my car was getting an oil change and was pretty impressed with the car.

Question i have is if the intelligent key controls are on will the car unlock if the key is at my home and the car is parked in front of the house, can anyone just get in the car , how does it work

The key fob has to be within 3 feet of the car or something for the whole system to function

That's correct. Also, if the key is inside the cabin, you cannot push the button on the exterior door handle to lock/unlock the door.

Mine seems a bit sporatic on how far away you have to be. A few times I was a good 3 feet from the car and it worked and others I was right beside the car and it took a minute. They are pretty safe though - I'm sure there would be major news coverage already if not.

I am rather peeved by how the system is set up tho.

You have to go up to the car, have your hand grasping the handle and then push the button to unlock it. I think on the Smart Key system on Toyotas/Lexus you just have to pull the door handle tho I could be wrong.

Oh, and I personally like the high pitch beeping sounds found on some keyless entry systems (various BMWs have that sound, as well as more mundane cars like Subaru and what not)

So, unlocking and locking the car via the door handle button gives you that beeping sound. But if you unlock the car via the key fob, no indicator whatsoever. And locking the car on the fob gives you the Honda-esque horn honk, which I hate with a passion.

But yah, just my pet peeves

You know you can turn the horn honk thing off and don't the lights blink when you use the fob? They did on my '04 and they do on the '05 but I always use the button (LOVE IT!) so I haven't checked on this car.

To do so, simultaneously push the Lock and Unlock buttons on the I-Key for 2 seconds. The hazard lights will flash 3 times.

To reset it to the Horn/Hazard Light mode, repeat the process. The hazard lights and horn will flash-sound once.

Sorry I guess it would have helped if I had included that.

Thanks.

How would you unlock the car?

I believe it's not possible to lock the car if the I-Key is left in the passenger compartment:

Lockout protection

When the power door lock switch (driver
or front passenger) is moved to the lock
position with the Intelligent Key in the
port and any door open, all doors will
lock and unlock automatically. With the
Intelligent Key left in the vehicle (not in
the Intelligent Key port) and any door
open, all doors will unlock automatically
and a chime will sound after the door is
closed.
These functions help to prevent the Intel-
ligent Key from being accidentally locked
inside the vehicle.

I don't think you can lock yourself out unless the battery of the intelligent key dies.

It does the same with the trunk too I think.

The manual shows the range of operation of the key.

It's like 3 feet or somtehing near the front doors and the trunk.

Strange. I've never had a problem like this.

Lockout protection:
To prevent the Intelligent Key from being
accidentally locked in the trunk, lockout
protection is equipped with the Intelligent
Key system.
When the trunk lid is closed with the In-
telligent Key inside the trunk, the outside
buzzer will sound and the trunk will open.

We have also locked the doors and them stay locked with an Ikey inside the car. Trey didn't realize my purse (with the FOB in it) was in the car and he walked up and locked it using his FOB and pushing the button on the car. It locked it just fine and would not unlock until he came back to the car with HIS FOB.

this is true, my brother has a 2006 lexus GS and when opening the door, all u have to do is touch the handle and it will automatically unlock, without pushing the button......however to lock it, is the same way, by pushing the button.
when i first got my G, i thought it was the same until i stood there for 10 mins trying to unlock my door.
