Why is th G35 so expensive in Canada?

I was pissed beacuse MSRP in Puerto Rico for a G35 S PP is about 3K more than in the US (not including an obscene excise tax on cars) . So i checked Infiniti Canada web site to see if I was the only one getting screwed and found out the G35 S costs about 47K USD.

Why is the G so expensive in Canada? Does the price includes taxes?

I was watching a car show and they said, the market is sustainable with the costs so they keep it this way. If the people didnt buy the cars that are high priced, they would probably lower it.

Basically, it has to do with economies of scale. People buy luxury cars regardless of price it seems in Canada. I did notice that the lower end cars are closer in price.

I totally agree with you that is sucks.

A paltry sum!

Bummer man, what are you going to do? 3k over US prices isn't THAT bad though. With a 5 year loan, that'll hardly make a difference in your monthly payments

It has to do with the dollar and greedy people. The dollar a couple of years ago the Canadian dollar was ~.65cents US and now it is .94cents US. A couple of years ago people were importings car from Canada to the US like crazy and now it is reversed. The manufactors in canada right now are making a killing. on average i would say about 6K per car over the same car in the US. But that is capitalism for you...

I wish the price would follow the dollar more but that would make for an interesting used market...

Add some options and it will go over 52k CND easily, around 50K USD

In Puerto Rico If MSRP is 41K USD I'm paying over 10K USD in taxes wich makes the car over 51K USD, if MSRP were 38 K USD taxes would be somewhere between 7 or 8 k in taxes with brings the total to around 46 K USD. Very expensive but a little bit easier to swallow.

I think you meant relatively inelastic demand? Economies of scale occur when production becomes more cost efficient as number of units increases.

It has a lot to do with fluctuating exchange rates and little to do with greed.

If prices changed with exchange rates, car prices would be almost as crazy as gasoline prices. People on relatively fixed incomes would be buying a BMW, then a Honda, then be back to a BMW again. And, as you mention, the impact on used car prices would be insane.

To stabilize the market, manufacturers stabilize prices. In the long term, though, if the U.S. dollar remains weak import car prices will have to go way up in the U.S.

The problem is much less overcharging in Canada than undercharging in the U.S. Just about everywhere else in the world is paying far more for cars right now.
