AUX volume

Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone notice that the volume of music coming through the AUX inputs (in the armrest) is MUCH lower than that from any other audio source? I hooked up my iPod, which was set at a volume plenty loud enough when I was listening to it directly, but coming through the G's AUX interface, the volume was reduced a lot.

Is this a common problem, or do I have a problem with my car?

I have noticed the exact same thing. There is significantly more bass and louder music when I use my iPod through the Aux port in the car. In fact, I think it sounds better than a regular CD in the player.

I have always assumed that it was the iPod itself, since it is a music device with its own settings. Inside most iPods, you can play with the EQ settings to match the kind of music you are listening to. I always thought the louder volume and bass was a result of those settings.

Anyway, you are not alone. My car does the exact same thing!

The car's cd player has a higher signal ratio than your ipod, hence the higher volume even at the same volume setting.

looks like some miscommunication here. the OP is stating that volume is very LOW when he hooks the iPod to the AUX connectors.

+1 - the first two posts directly conflict.

Anyway, I had to match the iPod and car volume when I first connected it. Now use the line out port in the iPod, which took care of the problem (no volume setting on iPod when you do this).

Mine is louder with the AUX.

I still have to find the point on my Zen Micro that matches with the CD volume.

I think it's around 18 or so with the maximum of 25.

It's interesting how some people are having the opposite experience (i.e, music is louder through the AUX input). My AUX interface definitely weakens the volume.

I just changed the volume limit on my iPod to near maximum, and now the volume through AUX is decent, but still not close to that of the car's CD player or radio. Maybe matching the iPod's volume to the car system's volume will help...

How are you connecting to the aux? Are you connecting from the headphone jack or the sync end? I have connected my wife's ipod to my G with a pocketdock and have not had any issues with volume.

It's not unusual for a analog source to be quieter than a straight digital source. Gain, signal strength, etc all make analog signals much more variable than digital signals.

Given that different people, with different cables and different output methods might hvae different results.

I use this:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=149006
It's got an amplified 1/8" minijack output and with the amp adjusted right, the audio levels are perfect.

Exactly. I have an MP3/video player and watch movies on TV with it or plug it in to my home stereo. In each case I have to turn the volume much higher than if I were listening with headphones. I have always had that experience.

That could be because it is only less than one inch from your ear drum when using headphone. The other way have to travel through the air and got difuse by air before getting to you?

I'm using just the headphone jack. Maybe that's my problem. I'll try to look for that pocketdock. Thanks!

Great info! Thanks. I'm going to order mine right away. I'm really into music, and having a sub-par audio connection is just killing me.

My creative vision:m is also quieter when used through the aux ports.

XM is also quieter relative to radio or cd, anyone else have that?
