Travelling with Second Intelligent Key

I don't know if this belongs here or in the tech section, but I'll let Shane worry about that.

OK, so with all this hoopla about the I-Key possibly getting reprogrammed or possibly not working anymore, I had a question to see how people are planning for the worst. I personally have not yet been afflicted [knock on wood] and hope never to be; but that doesn't mean I don't want to be prepared.

I'm planning a long trip for this weekend (my college 5-year reunion), which is about 250 miles away. Obviously, having any I-Key issues that far from home will become a royal pain in the ****. This is why I'm considering bringing the 2nd I-Key with me just in case something happens to my primary one.

What I'd like to know is how people bring it along. I'd prefer to leave it in my bag in the trunk, but the safety mechanism of the car, probably wouldnt let the trunk close/lock with the I-Key in it. Do you guys just carry them both in your pockets when you go on long trips? Do you leave it in the car and take it with you when you step out of the car?

I'm open to any suggestions or comments. Thanks in advance.

I have had this come up on a long trip on our 07 corvette. Wife's key fob seems to confuse the car when she is in it and I get our for gas or such. So I wrapped her fob in alum. foil to shield it from receiver in car. Stuck it in her suitcase and car doesn't know its there. Can use my key then to get into to get suitcase if needed. Don't see why this wouldn't work the Infiniti fob.

I thought the car wouldn't lock with the other key inside, but I've tested it and it works.

I think -- don't know for sure -- that the car won't lock if you open it with key A and leave key A inside, but if you open it with key A and leave key B inside, the car will lock just fine.

I did this just the other night when I went out to dinner... the wife left her key in her purse in the front and the car locked/unlocked with no problem.

After having been stranded by the IKey once, I now keep my spare in the car wrapped in aluminum foil if I'm traveling further than local.

Very simple solution. You just have to take the battery out of the spare one and you be OK.

Hehehe... when you google it up you get an ad for a "natural ADD remedy" -- I guess somebody went out of their way with the keywords.
