Sound System Fix

Hey guys I have the base Audio System on my 07 G sedan
it's okay I guess, I want to add a little more depth to it without
ripping the whole system out and starting over.
Have any of you done any chages to yours? Any tips are welcome.
thanks!

He has the base system. Not the SOW. Like him I have the base and plan on putting in some front components along with a subwoofer. The base system is simply too muddy sounding for my taste.

ULT. . GEEE
ha yeah i saw your post and thats what prompted mine
I am going to look into a sub or two as well, but then you already have the
bose system, but then those are in the trunk might not do much for the cabin depth just a nice deep bass. . .

by the way I love the white G's w/ tinted windows looks the cleanest by far, what color interior?

Someone else on this board confirmed that the base system has 6 1/2" component drivers in the doors with spacers to make up the difference between the SOW's 10's and the bae 6.5's.

What this means is that the door panels can easily supprt 8" or larger mid bass. I'm thinking of putting in a 3-way component system with 8" mid bass, 4" driver in the upper door (where the tweeter is) and tweeters in the pillars. All I need is an amp with hi level inputs to run the HU off of and I'll be good to go.

I've got a friend who used to do installs at a shop who's gonna hook me up. It might be a little while before I do it. I'm probably going to buy a 4" 2-way component system and buy an x-over & a 8" mid bass driver as seperate pieces. The prices for a 3-way 8" set up from focal, dynaudio or morel (at almost $1000 for any of 'em) is effin CRAZY.

bass is useless if you don't have a good front stage.

get some quality component speakers and drive them with some good clean power, at least 75 wpc rms worth.

i'm a fan of CDT audio components for semi-oem applications.

eek!

have you heard/tried CDT's? they sound a helluva lot more natural to my ears than MB sizzles.

also, i really don't know if a 4" cone speaker is going to fit without modification into the current location. if i were you, i'd go with a good 6.5" comp and put the tweeter in the door next to the mid. with an 8" provision you would have room to mount the tweeter down there and you'd get better imaging (you can aim the tweeter too).

or do this:

and then an auxiliary tweet in the mirror wedges (like the stock SOW) would raise the soundstage...

So you'd do a 6.5" in the door with the tweeter dwon below as well and then add extra tweets in the pillars? Or would you put the second set of tweeters in the doors where they originally were?

In your opinion, do the 8" speakers not provide enough extra umph for the effort of then having to run a 3-way system up front? I'm going to try to limit the size of any sub (using a basslink or bass tube in the trunk) to keep the largest amount of cargo space.

i think a three-way is great, but the most important speaker in a front stage in terms of system imaging is the midrange. the best setup IMO would be an 8" in the door, a middome in the kickpanel and a tweeter in the dash corners, but you can't have everything

with the right 6.5" and good sound damping on the doors, you can accomplish a lot... plus the CDTs have amazing midbass...

to answer your first question though, yes that was what i was suggesting
