Throttle Lag

I received my first 2007 loaner car yesterday and absolutely loved it except for the odd throttle lag. I can imagine getting used to it in an automatic, but I plan to purchase a manual and am curious if the manual cars suffer from the same lag. If so, starting off of a hill or even flat ground would take longer or result in a huge lurch. Any input from 6MT owners would be much appreciated.

Can you describe that condition more. I have a 6MT and haven't noticed anything I'd call "throttle lag". But, neither do I remember anything like that when I test-drove the auto.

Throttle response in my 6mt is instantaneous. Other AT cars I have driven in the past take a brief instant to downshift during hard acceleration. Does the AT take a bit longer than normal to do this? I wonder if the paddle shifters would cause this as well.

There is a brief pause when you first press the accelerator before the car actually starts moving (in the loaner I had anyway). I've heard about the problem discussed here before, but if you aren't experiencing anything that's good.

This isn't throttle lag per se (although I guess the symptoms are similar). The gas pedal on the G has a little play, and goes down a bit without the car moving. Then you suddenly reach the point that it has an effect.

Try flooring it, or even just jam it down halfway - there's no lag

For the first ~1/8 of the throttle the car doesn't seem to want to start moving. Then there is a sudden rush of power, I call it the lurch. Maybe Infiniti should start offering neck braces as an option. jk

With pratice I've gotten better at smooth acceleration from a stand still. Maybe the ECU has made some adjustments for my take off habits. It still happens to me from time to time.

This is a drive by wire system, I wonder if any tweaks can be done by dealer to minimize this? It may just be my foot position on the accelarator needs to be adjusted.

I understand fully it's not your G, it's your lead foot. LOL

This is one of the most responsive engines on the planet.. It's not throttle lag..

The lag is probably the single biggest pet peeve I have with this automatic. Damn wife, should have gone stick again.

paddle shifters, sport mode, adaptive logic, etc... and it's still nothing but a glorified slush box...

It's fine most of the time... off the line running up thru the gears is fine.. descent quick positive shifts.
From a roll, the tranny hesitates as it drops down usually two gears when only one is required... which makes the engine have to rev up another 3K rpms... there is your lag.. Oh well.. it works great in traffic and 95% of the time.

Think you're missing the opportunity - sport mode and adaptive logic just make it a smart automatic. Paddle shifting means you have at least 90% of the advantages of a 6MT, with your hands still on the wheel and without a clutch. If it takes too long to shift down, and you don't want it to shift two gears - then tell it what to do.

The paddles are slow and can drag out shifts depending upon speed , load, etc... I don't like the soggy response you get much of the time... it's nothing like a manual.. The auto does a good enough job when left alone.. most of the time

Have you tried lifting of the accelerator and accelerating again? There is a 1-2 sec indecisive response where nothign happens(not on manual mode)

My wife's 6MT has a pronounced throttle hesitation, through I don't think it's anything from the DBW system. As others have said, it's probably nothing more than foot placement on the pedal.

Interesting, I haven't experienced this. The only time I've found that the paddles lag is when you downshift and hit the gas hard at the same time. This seems to create a wait state, where the tranny will wait to shift for a second or two.

Otherwise, no lag or slow shifts.

It's not supposed to be like a manual btw - (with the paddles) it's supposed to allow control of gear without removing hands from the wheel, without having to work a clutch in traffic etc., and still stay very close to 6MT performance. Voila.
