Unhappy 4 months, 4 batteries

Well, my I-Key battery died on me again. This makes 4 batteries, and I bought the car at the end of February.
It's somewhat aggravating that the batteries are not lasting more than 3~4 weeks in this key.
I'm just keeping a stock of them at my house. I'm Energizer's biggest fan.

What are you doing with them? 1 may be faulty, 2 is coincidence, 3 something must be wrong, 4.... you must be doing something with them.

I picked my car in March, and I'm still on the original battery.

I've had mind since December and am still on the original. Is it possible wherever you keep the key that something is being depressed, causing the battery to bleed out?

I am thinking that it has a short. It stays in my pocket or in the coin tray at home.
I haven't tried the other fob yet. I may swap over soon and try that.
Good thing the batteries are only about $4.

Not that it would kill any of us to spend the $4 a month on a new battery, but it still is an annoying inconvenience that shouldnt have to be dealt with. I would definately bring it back to the dealer and tell them to give you a new key. The battery in my last cars keyfob lasted 3 years.

yep. had mine since nov and key still works fine.

edit: btw, the battery can be run down by perpetual activation from other devices; as far as i understand it, the key has two modes, an activated one that uses up alot of power, and a standby mode.

when the key is away from the car or any other electronic instrument, it's not receiving any transmissions and so goes into standby mode. when you near the car, the key 'wakes' up to provide functionality but at the same time thisruns down its battery.

now, if you leave the key on a tv or something for example, it's possible that the interference from the tv will keep the keyfob active at all times, making it think it's receiving data from the car for example...this would lead to your battery running down.

am I wrong?

Something is definitely wrong, I’d switch to the other fob and wait till the replacements come out this fall from infiniti.

Here's my key's situation:
It resides on my keyring in my RH pocket along with the ignition key to my 4Runner. The 4Runner key may or may not have an immobilizer chip in it; I'm not sure.
I wear my cell phone on my belt (I know, lame!). This places the i-key approximately 12" away from the phone.
No other RF devices are near it, unless you consider my bionic *****.
Does anyone else have the i-key next to another ignition key on their key ring?

Again... there's something wrong with the fob, probably a short. Just get a new one.
Why not?

I'm on my first battery and I've had the car since November. I haven't paid any attention to where I keep the key, and until a couple months ago it was always in contact with my cell phone in my left pocket.
