Gas Cap Retainer came loose

While putting the gas cap back on today, the plastic retainer strap came loose while I was tightening the cap. It appears I lost the small retainer push-in plug that holds the strap to the door. Looked for it on ground but couldn't find it anywhere. Can someone post a picture of what it looks like, or point me in the direction of what I can use to replace it. Thanks

There's a link to a TSB for this in the FAQ sticky.

Check out infinitihelp -- they have the TSB on there. Or search.

Thanks, I solved my problem once and for all. I used a 1/2" long black button head 10-24 screw and a nylon keeper nut. Snugged up the nut so fit is just right. Fit perfectly into the strap hole and won't come loose now. Thanks

^^^ Good tip. I complained about this many months ago. I was going to cut the strap off once and for all (with the strap, I sometimes slip, and the gas cap would swing towards the car body like a pendulum -- not good), but I decided to just zippy tie it to the hole on door. The new fastener from the TSB should be a lot sturdier.

Yep, the zippy tie has been working for me.

Great idea! Mine came loose the other day and I was really ticked about having to schedule a service to fix something so trivial.

I did have to break open a box (moving tomorrow) but knowing that is fixed was worth a few extra strips of tape!

Thanks to the person who came up with that idea!
