Dreaded ticking noise

I started parking the car indoors (to deal effectvely with a sap/pollen problem) and tonight, for the first time, I heard a not-so-uncommon ticking sound from the engine after a 20 minute stop and go drive home.

I recall reading somewhere on this froum months ago about the 'dreaded ticking noise" but could not find the post...so now I am curious!!:

- why is it dreaded ( ie what does it mean?)
- how do you know if you have it (are all noises dreaded??)
- how do you get it? ( bad break-in??)
- what you do about it?

Thanks!!

TMG

if the sound your stating is the sound im thinking its due to the timing chain...cars with timing chains tend to do this. Very normal.

are we talking about the tick tick tick every five seconds or so? if that is the case, it is coming from some part of the exhaust heating up and cooling down.

A previous discussion on this topic brought up fuel injectors as the likely source.

I know it is a characteristic of all four Nissans I own or have owned.

It is more pronounced at some times than others.

Nothing to worry about IMO...
