Rearview Mirror - Auto Dim
Rearview Mirror - Auto Dim
I was on my way home last night and I noticed that my rearview mirror is not dimming.
I don't drive at night too often so I never noticed it before.
I know it was working when I took delivery (dreaded night time pickup) but it's not working any longer.
The little led light is on telling me there is power and the silly little compass still works but the headlights of cars behind me are wicked bright and the mirror is not dimming.
I'm going in on the 14th to get the moonroof TSB taken care of.
I suppose I'll need to add this to my list.
Anyone else having issues with thiers?

Well yesterday I drove through some extremely hard rain, it was during the day but dark enough during the rain that the lights came on. A car was behind me with his bright lights on and the thing didn't dim for me either, so let me know what they say.
i thought it was a green light that was on when you had the anti-glare function activated, not red? anyway, if i recall correctly the manual does state that if you block the sensor on the mirror or if you use glass cleaner on the mirror to clean it the anti-glare function will not function properly.
lol
I said "LED", not "RED"!
Anyways, I have not cleaned the mirror and I haven't even tinted the windows yet so that's not the cause.
I have an auto-dimmer in the 06 MDX and my last Jeep Grand Cherokee had it as well.
I know how they work, the level of dimming they offer and I'm used to having them.
This is definitely not working.
I'm calling them tomorrow to be sure one is in stock for my July 14 visit.

Well, I went to the dealer today and along with the oil change ($49- !?!) and moonroof liner thingy, I had them look at the mirror.
The tech came and got me from the waiting room and walked me to my car, and he had me sit in the passenger seat.
He put his finger over the light sensor located on the back of the mirror facing the windshield and he then held a flashlight... point blank... to the mirror's sensor, the one facing the rear window.
Nothing happened.
He says, "that's strange, it was working before" and then proceeded to play with and play with and play with it again.
Finally, it dimmed.
It does not dim when car's headlights are behind me... but after 10 minutes of shining a high power LED flashlight into the sensor, it dimmed.
He said, "there ya go, it works"
I said, "Are you kidding me, it only works when your stupid flashlight is right in the mirrors sensor. My Acura works perfectly and my old Jeep Grand Cherokee worked perfectly as well. This mirror is a joke"
He said, "all car makers have quirks here and there. Maybe Infiniti has lousy dimming mirrors. Since this is working, there's nothing else we can do"
I'll continue to monitor it's affectiveness. If it continues to suck, I'll continue to complain until they replace it.

No big deal.
No issues here... do you have tint on the rear window?? Maybe the mirror is compensating?
lol - I've read this thread a hundred times now and I still don't see where I said red... but no, I haven't gotten the windows tinted yet.
Good thing too... that would have been their excuse to not correct the issue.
Now I'll have to take care of the mirror before I get the tint, cause if I get the tint first, they'll never replace it.

Its definitely not due to tint (even though you don't have tint) -- I have tint and it works just fine.
It dims as soon as a big a$$ truck shines its light right on my eyes .... not after 5 mins or whatever !!
Yours definitely has a prob. - insist on them checking it out

I am not sure if this is what its for but if you push and hold the power button on the mirror for a few seconds, where the direction is on the mirror will change to numbers (1-10 i believe) and i think but am not posotive that the higher you make the number the better the sensitivity. So if you have a low number raise it to 10 and let me know how it works.
Holding the power button will change the zone you're in for the compass. There is a slight difference between true north and magnetic north depending on where you live, this is used by the compass to compensate for this. I believe there is a chart in the manual for that.
Just for fun (garage works best), try placing a piece of black tape on the forward looking (white square on the back of the mirror) sensor with the ignition off. Open the garage door during the day so that light is coming in the rear of the car, then push the ign button to get accessory power. Does the mirror dim?

talk to the service manager. that ain't cool.
Didn't really have a chance to test this out during our test drive but do the other mirrors dim too (side mirrors in particular)?
One of our cars has the electrochromic auto-dimming mirrors on both sides and definitely would be appreciated if it is found on the G
