Has anyone noticed that you can completly black out your interior lights?

I was playing with the buttons and noticed that you can completly shut off every light in the car. The whole cluster (speedo, tach etc) is completly black, nav screen, and every light is off. I cant really figure out why infiniti would make the cluster go completly off though. Whats stupid about this is you cant do with the lights on. If the headlights are on you can dim the cluster alot but not blacken it out. I think it would be sick if you can blacken the everything out while the lights were off....i can think of a few usefull reasons for this..na mean

so you're saying you CAN black out the lights inside if the headlights are OFF

but NOT if they are ON, right? and you're saying it'd be cool to black out the inside when the headlights are ON...why's that, I dont get it? The reason I want to black out the interior is when I'm in the car in the dark being stealthy but with the car itself on.

How DO you turn off everything? I know you can turn off the nav screen by holding the day/night button, does this turn off the little white spotlights and the guages too? My car's too far right now to check hehe

No no no. You can blackout your car if the headlights are ON. If the headlights are OFF you can only dim your gauges, not shut them off completely. And to answer your questions, blacking out gauges or dimming them down such that they're almost completely blacked out is VERY useful when you're doing some night driving with no ambient light outside. It reduces glare off of the windshield and makes it easier to focus on what's in front of you outside the car.

no ya maniac lol you got it backwards...you can black them out completly if the headlights are on..but not if there off. When there off you can dim them but not completly black it out.

I too, wish that were possible. I know plenty of great reasons why that would be useful, but remember this aint no prius, just because the interior lights are off doesnt mean someone cant hear the exhaust/engine from down the block.

With the headlights on:

1. Hold down the instrument dimming switch (labelled "-") on the left side of the pod. The instrument cluster and center stack lights will get dimmer and dimmer, then go out.

2. On the controls under the status/nav dispay, hold down the upper right switch (labelled with symbols for sun and moon, and "off") for two or three seconds. The display will go out.

The interior is now darkened, unless a warning light or the high beam indicator is on.

BTW, I found the dimmest setting of the instruments (just before they go out) way too bright for me on dark roads, and the high beam indicator was like a laser drilling into my eyes. Anybody else have this issue?

I applied some 50% (I think) windshield film to the instrument cluster, and put a couple of additional layers over the high beam indicator. Still not quite dark enough at night, but any darker film and I couldn't see the instruments during the day in sunlight with sunglasses on. The real problem is that the instrument lights just don't have enough range.
