Distance to Empty

When the distance to empty warning reaches zero on the LCD screen. How much miles do you actually have before the car shuts down on you? Mine says zero and the closest gas station to me is 1.5 miles away. Would I make it?

Hugely - you have at least a gallon and a half of gas left (assuming you haven't driven anywhere SINCE DTE hit zero...). I made it 20 miles once on the highway, and still had a gallon left.

Just wondering... why did you bring down to 0? lol I get nervous driving the Lexus GS350 even when it's around 10 til empty and then I have to find a gas station right away.

IMO, most cars can go 30miles when the light comes on.

I hit zero the other day and it took 17 gallons to fill up. What is the capacity of the tank?

I was being cheap and waiting to get to my usual gas station (where premium fuel is much cheaper than others). Unfortunately I misjudged how much gas I had left and hit zero once I pulled into my garage.

I've gotten down to about 10 miles left and it took me about 18 gallons to fill the car and I average about 20 mpg, so i figured I had an additional 40 miles before i was in deep ****. I figure it's just a safety feature to help people aqvoid getting stranded.

Once the fuel range displays *** on the Nav screen you have ~2 gallons remaining. I recently tested the range but unfortunately ran out of gas about 50 yards from the station. As a rule of thumb upon hitting *** on the fuel range the distance to empty is approxmately 40 miles. However it's all dependant your average MPG and how aggressive you are on the throttle. I typically average 19.9 MPG but with an Fujita intake and a Stillen Catback exhaust it's very difficult to sustain 19.9 MPG.

Is that because those mods hurt gas mileage or because you love it so much you cant keep from flooring it all the time?

I usually have 2 gallons left even after driving for a few miles when the ---- shows up on the dash display.

I only buy Chevron gas, on this particular highway they are pretty far apart

yup id say 2-3 gallons, so 40 miles as stated above sounds good to me,
Ive driven around on 0 miles to empty a few times and id say got at least 20 miles out of it

i don't think it's a good idea to let your tank get that low, all the crap at the bottom of the gas tank will go in your fuel injectors. you should fill it up with 60-80 miles left IMO
