service Engine light

I bought a brand new G35 Sedan tonight. I was very excited and I used this website quite a bit in my research. I traded my 02 TL in and picked up a Blue slate with graphite enterior/AL trim. My new car has 7 miles on it. When I drove it home from the dealership the Yellow service engine light went on. I had a 90 mile drive which I broke up by stopping 2x and variating my speed. I kept the tac under 4 grand except for a quick sec or 2 at 5k - once or 2x maybe. I want to brake it in for the first 1000 miles.

I tried adding gas and tightening the gas cap after my 90 mile drive home. The car is straight from the dealership. Maybe they put cheap gas in the car causing an emision sensor to trip - or the gas cap was loose. I added the gas and then drove home. The light stayed lite up. It is NOT flashing or anything like that. I drove it like 3 miles from the gas station to my home.

I hate to drive the car back to the dealership as I am 90 miles away.

I will see if the light goes off and it probably was the gas cap - or run it over to autozone to get the code.

Does anyone have a suggestion or comment other than this? Thanks...dave

the light dropped

I was driving and the light went off. I bet the gas cap was not tight and after I tightened it, it took a bit and the light re-set itself.

I will check the code though...

I still haven't checked the code. Does anyone think that it is even worth it?

If the light is now off I wouldn't worry about it.

when i had the "service engine soon" light problem i took it to the dealer and they told me it could've been the gas cap but i know what i did wrong. anyways, they told me to make sure after i fill the gas, lock the gas cap and let it click 4 or 5 times more to make sure its lock. they said if the light comes back on, check the gas cap once more and let the engine wrong for 2~3minute and it should go away.
