First Oil Change / First Loaner

Its only been 6 hours and I dearly miss my 6mt. I dropped off my car this morning for the first service and got an 07 g35 in silver with gray interior.

I didnt realize how different the interior was between my 07 g35s 6mt. The first thing I noticed was how much taller the center console looked. I guess they needed the room for the auto trans, but it doesnt look nearly as sleek as the center console on the manual. The arm rest is also a lot bigger and doesnt look quite right to me.

Other things I noticed that made me appreciate my car more.

1. The manual shift **** just looks much better.
2. The regular seats are not nearly as comfortable as the sports seats, especially under the thigh.
3. No matter what anyone says about the 6mt clutch, its 1000 times better than the delay and lack of control you have with the auto.
4. The light colored leather (gray) looks like vinyl. The black leather with baseball stitching looks much better.

If the first 07 g35 I sat in looked like the loaner I got, I wouldnt have sat in another one and I probably would be in a 335 now. I cant believe how much different the look and feel of the same car can be just based on color and a manual vs. an automatic.

Obviously all just my opinion and personal preferences. No need to flame me. Just letting people know that there is a huge difference and that they should sit in multiple color combinations and autos vs manuals to get a real feel for what you prefer.

Interesting write up! I'm surprised you got a loaner for an oil change too. Dealers around here just make you wait.

a loaner definitely makes you appreciate your car more. i completely agree with you on the stitching and the seats, but i have never driven a manual g35...i'm sure it's tons of fun. my brother lets me drive his z06 from time to time

To me, the car looks best with the Graphite interior. The brown dash and steering wheel in the Wheat cars doesn't look like it belongs in a 35K car (but may look better with the wood). While the Gray interior looks ok overall, the cheaper pieces really stand out in the lighter color.

I believe there are probably more future owners in here as than actual owners....

The owners were run out of here by the fact that there has been no new info on here for months.

sitting here in the loaner and just realized that the non-nav screen is not a touch screen. Thought that was kinda weird.

I agree that light grey leather looks cheap. Looks much better in black... and then in tan/wood combo.

i have the light grey (stone) leather and i like it . It shows off dog paw prints really easy though. I've had a few black interior '05/'06 loaners and I thought the leather on the loaners really didn't hold their age very well. The black started looking crappy and cheap within a year or two.

When I had an '07 loaner from the dealer, I thought the same about the transmission compared to my G35S 5AT. I chalked it up to the adaptive ECU. I personally don't think my 5AT is significantly slower than a manual 6MT, at least not with me shifting it. The adaptive ECU might have alot to do with it as I tend to be pretty spirited when driving and shifting.

the newer auto transmissions probably shift as fast or faster than manual transmissions (unless you abuse the manual). the sequential manual transmission (which many people think as automatics) are definitely faster than manual transmission. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequential_gearbox

i think, however, that most people who opt for manuals (including me) do so for the increased involvement in driving the vehicle. not even sequential transmission can top the manual in terms of feel and involvement.

Tk,

The same thing happened to me, but with a few differences. I brought my car in this morning for some work and they gave me an 06 loaner
It's not a bad car but it's no 07. Plus no nav, no tech, nothing I was used to.
My friend manages the dealership and called me to say that someone dropped off an 07 today and if I want to switch it out and also test drive the G37. So i flew down there and changed cars. I agree with the interior of the auto vs man, the shift ****, the sport seats amd also the lack of touch screen. I appreciate my car more now!!!
