Anyone driven a G35S back to back with and without Premium Package (as in no sunroof or other doo-dads). Most drivers cars come without it, do to weight. I'm curious if there would be any noticeable differences.

I drove a 6MT and 5AT back to back. The MT only had a sunroof and the AT had Premium and Nav packages. While the cars felt different (the difference between AT and MT), I didn't really notice any difference in the handling.

Is it possible to get the Prem Package, but delete the sunroof?

No one, not even a professional can tell the difference between a car with/without a sunroof. Why would you not want it?

Also if you are this serious about performance then you probably should be looking at a Porsche.

Sunroof adds considerable weight to the roof of a car, and yes a professional CAN tell the difference.

Why would I not want it? I'd like to order a car I'm paying for with options I want. Perhaps for more headroom.

Don't want a Porsche, but would like to know if I can delete the sunroof option and get Prem Pkg on a G35S.

My only example is the non-premium/non-sport loaner I drove, which didn't have nearly as solid a feel.

That being said, I feel the biggest contributor was the sport suspension and 18" wheel/tires.

For a minimal weight gain, you just need to decide if the 'luxury' items are something you would enjoy or not. If so, I would strongly recommend them.

Nope - you can get sunroof without premium pkg, but if you get the premium package you get the hole in the roof automatically.

Agree with what others have said - more headroom is a valid answer, but none of us will reach such limits of handling that the ten pounds of roof weight (I'm guessing) make a difference.

Not intending to be argumentative, however I think those that can tell you they notice a difference are in the same boat as the people who call themselves audiophiles (self proclaimed professionals) who argue to the death that they can tell the difference between $100 speaker cables and $2000 speaker cables. When in reality if you do a blind test 10 times, I bet only 5 get it right (same as flipping a coin).

I would agree that 1" of headroom may be a valid argument, in the loaner I had the other day The first thing I noticed was it felt roomier and then it hit me that there wasn't a sunroof. But man, I love my sunroof. I certainly would never delete that option, even if I could have.

and to answer your original question, no you can't delete the roof from the package, nor can you add all the other package components individually.

There's a little something called economy of scale. When you make too many options available ala carte, it actually costs more. Factory lines have to be tuned to handle multiple options, car availability with exactly what you want becomes more of an issue, and certain options will cost more just by virtue of being purchased in smaller quantities by the auto manufacturer.

So when you say you only want to pay for the options that you want, without packages, the average buyer will probably end up paying more.

Otherwise, I don't doubt that at it's limits, a professional (read professional race car driver driving at 9/10ths or 10/10ths of a car) can probably tell the difference. Are you telling me you're one of those people? If so, good luck on your nascar, world rally or F1 race

A sunroof is probably closer to 50-100 lbs, so about the weight of an pre-teen, early teen child. Not exactly enough that would matter on street driving.

I agree, and I'd say BMW is a prime example of that.

For me, the only thing I wanted in the premium package is the heated seats. It's tough to pay $2500 for this feature.
