ses light on :(

Driving my car back to College Station from Austin and my ses light came on. not sure why, I barely have 1k miles on it. Took it to nissan since they are the only thing around here and they said they would not touch it under warranty. He said it was probably my gas cap not being on tight enough and he tightened it a bit. Said the light would go off in about 5 days if that was the case. if it stays on I'll have to drive to either houston or austin to get it into an infiniti dealership. sucks it is basically at least an hour an a half away.

this happen to anyone else? should I be worried? it is not flashing just on constant

I think that's really stupid.. Can't they just connect OBDII reader and find out the code?? I think you can do to autozone or kragen and rent the tool and read the code instead going to another dealer w/o knowing what's wrong with your car..

You don't need to rent the tool. AutoZone will do the reading for you, for free.

By 5 days did he mean like 5 minutes? Why would it take 5 days for the ECM to realize your gas cap is full? On top of that, why wouldn't they just hook it up to the scanner to make sure? Its hilarious that dealers charge upwards of $100 to do that and it only takes 2 minutes of that to scan and pull the SES code.

But as stated, Autozone will do it for free.

ok i'll get to autozone and see whats up. I asked the dealer about that actually and he told me that it would not work. I was a bit hesitant to believe him but I did not know they were still using obdII in the newer cars. I thought they had something newer by now since that is over 10 yrs old. I guess what works works.

If you want it off immediately, just leave the battery unplugged for about 10 minutes and plug it back in. It'll reset the ECM...but you'll lose all your radio presets in the process.
