Rattles

I know that this has been talked to death already, but I am getting alot of "cracking noise" coming from the dashboard mostly when I accelerate hard of when I turn the heat on when it's cold out. It doesn't seem to be related to the road conditions.

The car is only 1 week old about 1,000 miles. Didn't hear it when I bought it, but it wasn't very cold out either. Normal?
(Otherwise I love the car!)

Thanks!

In my case the cowl at the bottom of the windshield was rubbing against it. From the outside I sprayed WD40 between the base of the windshield and the cowl and... no more noises.

It seems to be a noise that is totally random. Sounds like the plastic is expanding or contracting.

I seem to be having a rattle up in the moonroof area, because I usually drive with the cover open and the roof closed, if I close the cover I don't hear the sound. I'm wondering if I should take it to the dealer to resolve it...

I have that cracking sound for the dash also. Doesn't happen all the time either. Sometimes it makes the cracking sound while the car is perfectly still.

Mine too (even when standing still), I'm afraid of what will happen when it gets really cold.

I wouldn't worry too much about some of these noises. A lot of them will disappear as the car ages and the body trim parts settle in. But I could be wrong.

My 07 has been at the dealer for almost a week with the same issue. They stealership was unable to find the noise and tried to blame my non OEM windshield. Which is funny considering I have been complaining about this issue prior to having my windshield replaced. They have finally isolated the noise to the dash/cowl. I will post and update shortly.

Tell them to simply squirt WD40 between the base of the windshield and the cowl.
