Paddle Shifters
#33
i much rather use the tranny shifter, i also feel the paddles are a bit too fat, but when i use my paddles it usually is for straightaways, i prefer the paddles on the steering wheel more even though they really arent paddles .. but theyre in a convenient location .. perfect for switchin gears with your thumbs .. well at least that's how it is in my friends 335i

My favorite feature exclusive to the paddle shifters is the ability to temporarily control gear selection while in D mode. It is cool on a short incline that would normally force a downshift to force the car to stay in 5th, and controlling a downshift to 4th in preparation for a highway pass is very nice. It is also cool to get the rev-matched engine braking during an aggressive slow-down or when entering speed traps without having to switch to full manual mode; when the car comes to a stop, it goes back to D automatically.
These are features I was not aware of when I selected the sport model---but are really useful in everyday driving. I rarely use pure manual mode, but I find I use the paddles in D mode all the time.

When I manually shift the car, witch is not very often I use the paddles. I really like the fact that they don't move with the steering wheel and the movement is very nice. My wife's RDX has the shifters on the steering wheel and I always get confuesed. Another thing is that IMHO the tranny shifter is set the wrong way. I think that the ideal way to do it is pulling to upshifts and push to downshift.
