Picking up an 08 Sedan tomorrow... question

Budget allows for premium plus 1 option... do I go sport or NAV?

To make matters worse... my drive is 90% on the same roads... I know the town very well but I'm a music nut and think that gadgets are cool to have. (nav package)

I *used* to be a car guy. I used to drive some pretty nutty cars but family and work commitments leave modding time by the way side. I guess meaning that I would consider myself a driver... leaning to the sport package here.

I know this is purely subjective but which one could YOU live without? Which one had the "new" wear off the soonest. I have to make a choice in 14 hours.

Go with sport pkg. For more than $2000 navi is not worth it, $1600+ for the sport will be better, more overall fun and value.

I went with the Nav because it comes with the Music Box and the RearView video camera. The rear view camera is an awesome feature, you get a great view of where you are backing up. The Music Box is nice, but the iPod integration is much more useful, IMO. The Nav is very good, better than I thought ... but not as good as a Garmin.

Its really personal choice, but the non sport edition is still very sporty and drives awesome. I hated the sport seats. I found them very uncomfortable compared to the non sport ones.

I voted Nav, picked my G35 '08 up last week.

Nav is nice for getting to out of the way places you've never been to, or for finding alternate routes in traffic jams, or for that occasional road trip to someplace new.

The sport pkg at abouty $1600 is a great bargain. You get sportier seats w/ many more adjustments, larger brakes, limited slip differential, 18" rims, lower front airdam and side skirts, paddle shifters and sport tuned suspension. It would cost $5,000+ if you tried to do all of these upgrades after the fact.

That said, I think nav is a must have for this car - especially given the large display in the middle. As papajohn7 indicates, this year, nav is bundled with the rear view camera which is really well implemented. The truth of the matter is, EVERYONE's drive is 90% or more the same roads. Nav is very handy for the other 10%. Additionally, I can't tell you how many times I've taken different ways home and to work ever since I've had nav systems in my cars. It's great to hit traffic congestion and turn off a road you've never driven on and easily get detoured back on your route. Although some features are locked out while moving, the voice recognition in the G is uncannily good. After having nav in my last 3 cars, I would never buy another car without it.

My advice - get both! When you're spending $35K+ for a car, just spend a few more bucks and get EXACTLY what you want. Buyers remorse will kill you and it will cost a small fortune later to upgrade to a car w/ both nav and sport pkgs if that's really what you want.

BTW, I ended up buying a non-sport becaue I couldn't comfortably fit the sport seats and I thought the sport suspension was really firm for a 4 door sedan. Despite this, I think the G35 non-sport still provides a very sporty driving experience. It's everybit as quick as a sport and using the manumatic shifter gives just as firm shifts as the paddle shifters.

This is exactly what I had in mind.. I originally was going to purchase an affordable car, something like an Honda Civic, but "Hey what the heck. If I spend a little more, I can get a better car." Thus... I ended up with G35S, almost fully loaded.

Go for Sport man!! nav is a plus to have, but you can live without, however the drive feel of the car (sportier) makes the car grow on you as time passes...

go sport, but i think sports in 6mt (not sure if they still have sports in auto) are hard to find on dealer lots.

Just wanted to say thank you to all that responded... didn't really think I'd get this many opinions in one post at one site. Much different than my previous car (audi 2.7tt S4... audiworld boards are odd to read).

I've decided on a 2008 Blue Slate G35 Sport with no nav. I'm sure I'll have some regrets about not getting the nav... it ended up being 38 bucks a month difference. I just couldn't do without those upgraded wheels, seats, etc. Unfortunately, they're going to have to do a dealer trade to get what I want so I take delivery on monday when they bring my car up to the office.

Thanks again and I look forward to many years or being on this forum.

I voted for Nav. Only because I found Journey's front bumper looking better than Sport's. Just my opinion.

Good choice! The nav is definitely nice to have for the occasional roadtrip but the driving feel of the S over the other packages wins hands down, for me at least. Besides you can always add an aftermarket nav system for considerably less if you really feel you need it. I think ON_6MT is definitely on to something there...

Post some pics when you get the car.
