Sour Smell When First Starting
OK I know the title may sound like a joke but I'm actually serious. The HVAC system on my '07 G35 sedan smells terrible when I first start the car. Before the A/C kicks in there is a sour smell that blasts out of the vents. The car only has 3500 miles on it and is kept in a clean (and stink free) garage. It seems the worst after it has been sitting for a while. I took it into my local dealer for service last week and he said that they had seen (smelled) this with some other Infiniti's (M's and G coupes) but hadn't seen this with the new model. Their fix, to make sure it had the charcoal filter and to spray some "fridge fresh" under the dash. Whatever they did didn't help at all though as it still stinks. Anyone else have this issue???
Thanks!
Thanks!

i had heard its from moisture buildup in the system when you use the a/c alot and just park it(not allowing it to dry up).
i have heard some people say that they cut the a/c off just before they come to their destination. itll dry it out along witht the smell.
I hardly every use my a/c. car smells great (and new) at all times after a year and 13000 miles.

I use my AC all the time and don't shut it off before turning the car off and I haven't noticed any smell when starting the car regardless of how long it sat idle.
I don't think it would be an acceptable answer to say that you need to shut the AC off before getting to your destination. That's just a PITA and you don't have to do that in any other car. The dealership needs to remedy this somehow as this is a 40k car and even a 10k Kia shouldn't have this problem.

Living in FL I have had this issue with several of my cars. Most major autoparts store sell A/C odor disinfectant. You simply spray down into the cowl area it will not harm the car and will kill any mold. You might also want to check you ac drain lines under the car to insure they are not blocked with leaves or debris. If the drains are clogged and the water cannot escape you will have an odor. One last thing is to check your incabin filter.
