Sunroof Exploded!

This morning on the way to work my sunroof literally exploded upwards and the glass screwed my roof and trunk paint up. Nothing hit it, it just exploded. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought I read about this awhile back on the forum. The dealership has it, but they say it's never happened before. What the hell should I do?

i had my rear window implode on me in my beater like a year ago, but never heard about a sunroof exploding... it's got to do with sudden pressure change or something. did it "explode" right when you closed your door?

Never heard of such a thing. I've heard of side windows shatter due to unusual temps/pressure applied, but never a sunroof...

How is the paint looking?

whoa that's crazy. you got in the car, closed the door, and the sunroof glass shattered and flew upwards?

Thank God for warranty's, the only thing I could figure on an incident like this
is that the glass had a defect and the pressure made it pop. Unless of course
you had road rage and hit it with your fist at some point.......HAHA

I heard it before. It happens sometimes. That's the reason I did not want sunroof.

Check this out. But I am sure if you google it you find more. I also heard BMW sunroof did the same.

Have not had this happen in multiple cars with moonroof. I'd heard a "legend" that you shouldn't tint your sunroof for the heat buildup reason, but tinted my Maxima's sunroof and has been outside in Houston heat (outside temp of 100 or so, in direct sunlight - so HOT) for hours at a time with no trouble. Very odd - I'd guess that perhaps there's a low pressure area above the sunroof at speed, so if it's weakened and cracks the roof blows upwards? With the parked cars mentioned in the other thread, that's probably pressure and heat.

Can't be a pressure thing for the G, the G has flaps under the rear bumper cover that are normally closed, but puff open when you close the door so pressure is released.

Wow...

Oh yeah imagine the ford edge with the whole roof is a pc of glass. OMG. I would be really really pissed. That's like 2k to replace if not more.
