It certainly doesn't pay to be honest either. In preparation, I called my insurance company and they said that if they concur with me that they will not pay for the sunroof, but will pay for the paint damage. During the taping session however, I did state that although I didn't see any object something could have struck the sunroof. I don't think they would deny it and they didn't appear to lean that way.

From Google:
When tempered safety glass fractures it disintegrates into hundreds of small
granular fragments which have rounded or blunt edges. Such small bluntly-edged pieces
generally cause less injury than regular glass fragments. The tempering process creates
a tough "skin" on the surface of the glass which is referred to as the "compressive
surface." If the compressive surface of the glass is penetrated for any reason the window
will spontaneously fracture and disintegrate into hundreds of small pieces. All failures of tempered safety glass originate from penetration of one of the compressive surfaces on the glass.
Ford has received reports of spontaneous breakage of side windows of
vehicles parked in driveways, vehicles traveling on the road, vehicles passing each other, vehicles hitting potholes, vehicle doors slamming, vehicle windows breaking in car
washes, and other situations.
Ford's expert testified that the typical scenario for such spontaneous glass
breakages is that a small scratch or chip is inflicted on one of the window surfaces from
rock chips on the road, grit or sand lodged between the window and window seal, or
sharp objects coming in contact with the glass surface. Typically such scratches or chips
are not visible to the naked eye and, over time, the scratch or chip enlarges to the point
that it penetrates the compressive surface, although it is still too small to be noticeable.
Spontaneous glass breakage of tempered glass occurs on all models of vehicles regardless of manufacture and vehicle line. Ford's expert testified that even today there is no technology available to avoid occasional breakages of this type.
Both Ford's expert and Wise's expert testified that Ford experienced higher than
expected breakages of side windows on Ford Escorts produced between 1981 and 1987.
In mid-1985, Ford engineers investigated the problem and concluded that on some Ford
Escorts, the glass surface of the window could come into contact with the edge of a metal
bracket in the door frame when the window was rolled up tightly (highly torqued)
creating a scratch on the compressive surface of the window."

Not a problem. I wish I could find an actual article or document on it. THat was from the Bimmerfest forums off of a Google search. I'll try to see if I can find something that you can take to the dealer and get them to replace it free.

I believe insurance has to cover the damage if Infiniti denies the warranty claim (and I would get some documentation of this). You have to pay your deductible though. Truthfully, you don't really know to a certainty how or why the glass broke, and if you have comprehensive it doesn't matter.

Well, Infiniti CA didn't call today as they promised. I called back and received a very rude CA rep that said they have 48 hours to call back. I called my insurance rep and he immediately called the shop, rental car place and dealership on my behalf. The dealership said that I may have to pay some fees for parts that they ordered. I stated that I did not authorize the purchase of any parts or sign any work authorization to be performed. The Infiniti dealer asked my agent to "help him out" because they spent the money to order a new sunroof and have it overnighted. My agent said, "did my client authorize this". Infiniti said, "no", agent said, "then no I won't help you out". They then wanted to charge me for storage fees for the vehicle to which my insurance agent said, "the car was on your lot awaiting you to determine if it was a warranted item. My client still has an open case that is not resolved." Ask Infiniti CA to pay the fees. I like this guy

On a side note. Since this is comprehensive, my rates shouldn't go up correct?

$1800 damage. They will paint the roof, trunk and back quarter panel of the car and replace the chrome lip. The rear quarter panel is scratched at the seem right by the trunk lid. It's very small. Should I have them paint the quarter panel or should I have them touch it up? They said the paint would be blended and not fully repainted and I would not be able to tell the car had been worked on. 2-3 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear coat. The painter that owns the shop has 35 years of painting experience and came highly recommended. What do you guys think?

In person it was actually much smaller than the picture. It's barely noticeable.

When it rains it pours. After getting my car back for less than a week, driving down the same highway at the same exact spot, a rock kicked up and smashed my windshield smack dab in the middle. I'm starting to think I need to start back to church
