sport mode vs auto
i've read alot on this yet could anyone go more briefly into this ?
would sport mode be more torquey / pushy ? faster ? shifts at different rpm ?
just would like to know the major differences between them what sport has different than auto or what doesnt it have.
mostly said that its for more "spiritual driving" explain =[
much appreciation ^^

Well first off its spirited not spiritual driving. . .meaning. . .harder acceleration/braking
what DS mode does is it hangs on to revs longer. . .staying in lower gears longer. Since the G has more power/torque at higher revs you have more power readily available when you hit the gas.
basically the RPM shift points are moved up to higher RPM's
good for fun
bad for fuel economy

Yeah DS mode has this notion of not liking to upshift unless your engine is on the verge of exploding...hence this is not recommended during normal driving.
You may alternatively call it the "Drive it like you stole it" mode or "bat out of hell" or "F gas mileage" mode. I may just now call it the "spiritual" drive mode.

A few other things that DS does....
After you give half throttle or more..... it will stay in the lower gear for a few seconds (hanging at 4k rpm), ready in case you punch it again.
Also, while braking in DS mode, the tranny downshifts quickly, so if you brake quickly, then punch the gas, it doesn't hesitate to downshift, it's already in the lower gear. You can actually feel the tranny slowing you down while you brake.
Basically, DS would be great for autoX or a series of corners, but not so good for everyday driving.

It would be nice to know what gear you're in when you switch to DS. When I shift over, my dash just says DS, and not the gear. I need to know the gear so I can downshift further with confidence that I won't blow the engine. It's useless without this. Am I missing something? The only thing I can see is that on a standing start, you can take first gear to the redline in DS, wheras with the straight automatic it shifts 1-2 at about 5.5-6K.

agreed it would be nice to know,
although after a while driving in DS mode
you kind of figure out youre usually in gear 2-3 (unless at freeway speeds). . and based on how fast your going and the engine
sound from revs can pretty much always guess or
tell what gear your in
but yes it'd be nice if they took the guessing out of it

The tranny would ignore your downshift request - period.
So you can't "blow the engine" up.
Its an altogether different story in a manual trans car - don't try it
