Snow Mode Switch

Hi All,
We are migrating to Infiniti after 20 years of Audi Quattros! We are picking up an '07 G35x with navi/tech/wood on Friday. I have always liked the G and now even more with the restyle, seems like a great value for the $$ and awesome performance for any $$.

My wife feels very secure with the quattro as she has a long commute at odd hours in all weather conditions so, naturally, she is a little aprehesive about the AWD system on the G.

So...the "snow mode switch"....we have gotten/read several different stories about what it does and how. Does anyone have info. from Infiniti on how it works, the owner's manual is useless.

Thanks in advance for the help and thanks for the site, very informative!

John

My dealer told me that all the snow mode switch does is start out in second gear instead of first. Not sure if that's true, but that's what I was told.

there seems to be no shortage of opinions on what the switch does particulary from sales people ...I called Infiniti, they don't have a contact for that type of info. huh??, crazy...I'll be in Japan next week, I'll go to Infiniti and ask the engineers!!

This is what the re-connect person told me when she came by a few weeks after I bought my car.

I have my X since last November. First thing was to try in the snow is all the different driving. Went to a huge parking lot 2:00am and tried everything. The snow mode stars from higher gear not necesserly 2nd and does not let you over accelerate. It only works at the short time 12mph seems to be accurate. As above mentioned it by someone I went thru a some crazy snow storms without any problem. I went to see some construction last winter. Even I thought I will be stranded when I've seen what's front of me. I told my wife "Well only way to find out". I went for it. Not an issue. I love my X. The only time I used my snow mode when I tried it in that parking lot. The Attesa AWD system does everything what you need. All you have left to enjoy the magic of the X. If I had the guy a front of me right now who enginered the AWD in our car I would hug him.

Have I mentioned I love my X?

I had a 2001 Audi A6 2.7T. I hated the dealer, so I picked up a 2004 G35x for my next car (It was a hell of a lot less expensive also). I had just as much confidence in the snow as with the Audi. I recently got the 07 G35x and I expect that will be just as good in the snow also. I also never had to use the snow switch. With 25% of the power going to the front wheels automatically from a stop and then shifting to rear wheel drive after you get going, I never had a problem. I know the snow switch gives you 50/50 up to 12 mph if you ever need it.
