is there anything i can do about this

infiniti shafted me. i bought my car on june 23 this year and my birthday is august 25th...i paid for taxes, registration fees, etc. when i purchased the car. the people at infiniti took over 3 months to send all the info to my town so i could get the license plate. when i went to go pick up my license plate they said that i would have to pay taxes again since i got my license plate AFTER my birthday even though i already paid for it. so i paid taxes for 2 months?!? and again for 08? infiniti sent me a $20 check...which is retarded because most of you know taxes paid when getting the license plate is close to 600 bucks...is there anything i can do?

First what state are you from?
Are you talking about getting your driver's license on your B-day?
So let me get this straight. You paid Taxes and reg. fees in June; got your DL in Aug and they want you to pay reg and taxes again.

First of all Taxes are a one time deal at original purchase.
2nd Reg is good for a year from when you paid them.
3rd You DL should have nothing to do with you car registration.
4th check your vehicle purchase contract and see what you paind for and how much.
Infiniti is required to send the DOcs to the DMV for reg. since they are the seller and transfer the ownership. They have to send the purchase info to Feds and state for their tax purposes also.

i dont know what loophole they are working on you but no state that i know of will tax anyone twice on a single purchase(taxation type varies). if you still have the receipt then you should be fine.
however, you said that taxes add up to 600? that does not sound right! on a brand g35 car taxes come close to 3grand+/- depending on the state's percent.
i think you need to find out more info.

check you car purchase paper work, it should be noted there. If you paid it then why would you have to buy it again.

That sucks. I definitely wouldn't pay it twice and would take it up with the dealership once again.

I highly doubt thats tax on the car. Maybe you're mistaken and you paid for a tag at your local office.

I paid for all my taxes and whatnot at the dealership and they sent the tax over to my local office but I still had to pay for the tag itself which would run about $600 depending on what state you're in. So you probably paid for the tag and not the tax.

krazzyguju i think you're right...because like a member said earlier the taxes on a car would be close to 3k...did you have to pay 600 dollars or close to that price when getting ur tag? or did you also get yours in the mail...

Well the tax in my county is really high, I ended up paying $1100 for just the tag but I know my cousin who picked up a Acura in Alabama ended up paying around $600 for his tag so it really depends on the state but $600 sounds like its for just the tag.

Here in CA, you pay tax and license to the dealer, and they send the registration to the state DMV. The license plates come in the mail a few weeks later. Every year we have to renew the registration and we get a little tag that sticks on the license plate. This renewal is on the date of purchase. Whatever you are going through is simply nuts. There must be some mistake.

UGa, like i mentioned before "you need to get more info" and that info cant come from us. we can give you some of our experiences but it might not apply to your situation.
look through your paper work again and see if you already paid for your plates at the dealer or if they owe you anything.
taxed, title, registration is a separate transaction. you can make the payment as a one bulk but that money is then divided up in the dealership. one hand get the money for their pockets and the other gives money to uncie sam.

different states have a different approach this transaction. in NY you pay everything at the dealer and you can pickup your car within 2days. that is if your credits good. you get a temp registration with official plates on the car and an official regi within 2weeks from DMV.
