tested multiple cars IS, G35, C-class. They crashed the cars head on into a wall and 3-6 mph to see the damage it would cost.
The G35 was close to 5500 dollars damage in a frontal crash into a wall at 3-6mph!DOMO

I was reading the paper at work today and saw this article. >$5K damage at low speeds...

 

If you crash into a wall at 5mph you deserve the "stupidity" bill. If someone smashes into me at 5mph, thats what Insurance is for.

 

I was actually under the impression that it was a regulation for a car to be repairable for under a certain value when involved in a frontal or rear impact at low speeds.

People used to buy VW GTI, GLI, and R32 bumpers for extremely cheap when the car was frist released because the pricing was modified to meet the regulations. Then after a year they were allowed to raise the price up to the normal value.

A $90 lip would often times increase to $300 or more.
