Quick feature refresher re winter conditions
Quick feature refresher re winter conditions
I was hoping I can get a quick refresher re used of some the traction/slip features for winter driving . If some can fill in the blanks for these three tips, that would be very helpful:
For now, I really just want to know the normal position of these switches, and when I should flip them the other way.!

1. Normally, leave the horizontal rocker switch labelled SNOW in the off/down/back position, Only flip it to the on/up/forward position IF you somehow get stuck in deep snow and can't proceed with out it.
....
2. Normally, leave the push button labelled VDC OFF is the OUT/enabled position. Only press it IN/disabled position, when on clean dry roads for spirited driving and definitely not in the winter. I leave always leave VDC on.
....
3. Normally, leave the vertical rocker switch labelled AFS OFF is the off/down position. Only flip it to the on/up position...never, why do you want to turn off the Adaptive Front Lighting System?
None of the buttons that are obscured from view should ever have to be used quickly under sudden adverse conditions. Leave the VDC and AFS on.

Thanks for the write up and for the screen shots...
Re SNOW, I see I had my orientaition wrong, so thanks for the pic! As to its use, you say to use it when stuck and cant proceed without it...but the manual suggests its use when in motion, ie snowy/slippery roads (and to use VDC-OFF when stuck!).
Re VDC-OFF, you say never in winter (I assume in reference to the sprirted driving), but the manual suggests indeed it would be used in winter, specically to free a stuck vehicle.
So am I correct to phrase it this way? : Keep everything "normal". If driving is slippery, put the SNOW ON. When stopped and stuck, have SNOW ON and VDC OFF.
As to AFS, I agree with you...why turn it off....which begs the question...why have a switch to turn it off?

Unless you're off roading in your G in the winter I can't imagine that you will ever get stuck and need to turn off the VDC. As for snow mode, my wheels rarely rarely ever spin with the VDC active (the only indication I have of my wheels slipping is the slip light on the dash otherwise I would say that my tires have always maintained traction). Stopping on ice is a different story, but VDC and Snow mode are useless there.

Also note that snow mode is only engaged up until 12 mph, after that it disengages. So even if you have the snow button turned on, it will still be off if you are driving over 12 mph. The only time I would turn off VDC is if you are completely stuck.
