i just got my car couple days ago and im kind of disappointed as well. I drove on the high way for about 140 miles right after i picked the car up and the computer said i was averaging 17.2mpg. This was with the cruise control set at 80mph. My odometer is only reading 160 miles right now so it probably will get better

I don't have a G35 (yet), but two thoughts - seems cars get better gas mileage after break in. But I don't think the G35 is going to get great gas mileage... seems the gearing and weight of the car work a bit against it versus competitors (especially the 3 series). I also know the gas mileage on my '00 Maxima was pretty bad too, which makesme think Nissan doesn't prioritize gas mileage as much as other vendors (though the Altima Hybrid gets high marks, so what do I know).

yea i noticed that this car revs higher than my other cars. All my others car are around 2000-2200RPM at 80MPH and i get 25+ MPG in those cars but the G35 revs at 3000RPM at 80mph which is prob why im only getting 17MPG on the highway right now but even though i wish it was higher, i cant complain because im still very happy with the overall car

Exactly...Infiniti needs to get in the game on this....direct injection and a 6 speed auto will give a boost in power, better mileage, and allow 87 octane gas to boot..,and an added environmental bene...lower emissions. I'd pay a little more for all that. GM is doing this now with the CTS. I mean, c'mon.

My 05 coupe (5AT) averages about 20-22 combined in daily driving. Those of you that know me know I dont drive particularly slow.
I did try going to vegas once, and averaged about 28mpg both ways, doing exclusively freeway driving averaging about 90mph the whole time.
The reason VQs rev so high is that they are geared to be a power gear in every gear. Top speed is attained in top gear, as opposed to, for example, a vette, which attains top speed in 5th gear, and has 6th purely as an overdrive to get their (inflated) 28mpg fwy EPA rating. Also, being a (relatively) torqueless engine for a 300 hp engine, gearing provides additional mechanical torque multiplication, which helps with a higher redline.
Honda civics get great fuel economy right? they rev around 4k at 80mph
on a side note... my mitsubishi has THREE (3!) overdrive gears...

Yes, but which model G35s get better MPG?
I'm seeing the fluctuations here but I can't tell which models you guys are driving. It would be really helpful to know.
My guess is that an automatic Journey with 17 inch tires will likely get better mileage than a Sport model wtih 18" summer performance tires. Is this a fair generalization?
Also, the AWD model is likely to do a little worse on mileage.
I pick up my new Journey next Saturday and purposely avoided the 18 inch tires with different sizes in front and back because I didn't want to expense and hassle of replacing every 15,000 miles. My hunch was that they'd do a little worse on mileage, too, but does that ring true in your experience?

I wonder how many people just look at the MPG guage. I am coming from several 3G TL and TL-S and their MPG readout was always about 1+MPG over real. I calcualted every tank of my last 2 TLs. My 07 TL over 11K miles averaged 22.4 MPG. Most of it commuting 20 miles each way in suburban driving with computer saying ave MPH usually 27-29MPH. On the highway I could get a real 27+MPG, on my 08 Type-S over 8200 miles same driving conditions I got about 21.8 MPG average and could get about 27MPG on long hwy runs, all real calculations not using computer. So I do wonder what people are really getting in the G35. I was hpoing to sacrifice maybe 1 MPG over my Type-S 3.5. I drive failry conservative.

An easy way to calculate is you fill up a tank... then you note mileage and etc...then say you are at 1/2 or under 1/2 you fill up the same way you normally do, right there will tell you how many liters/gallons it took to fill up.. thats how much you used.. and compare that with your mileage and do the math and you got a more accurate day to day number. I compared that with what the computer is telling me and its pretty accurate, but I think the distance to empty thing is rubbish told me i would only be doing about 300+ km on a full tank.....

When I bought my 08, I knew the gas mileage was going to suck, granted its a 306HP 3,5l engine it will guzzle gas but if you compare with the IS350, or 335i, you find that those guys are consistently in the 20s, be it city or highway driving. The G delivers in almost everything else but the gas mileage
