Problems with 2nd-3rd gear!
Hey everybody, i know i am new here, but i have found alot of helpful info on here thus far. i love my new 2008 G35 Sport, which i bought 3 weekends ago.. The car has 800 miles on it..
Heres my issue. When i shift from 1-2, when the shifter goes into the final spot (in gear), it makes like a light clunking noise. and also the same with the 2-3 shift.. almost like it clicks when it goes in.. Just curious if anybody has heard anything like this.. im kinda nervous, lol
thanks ahead of time!
Ron
BTW, heres a pic of my baby! All stock for now

i called them today and described it, they said to just come in anytime... Its a shame, because i am in love with this car, i was planning on ordering my H&R Springs when i got home, i might have to wait a lil bit now, lol
Hmmm...
I have a G35S 5AT and have experienced a thud-like sound when the tranny upshifts into 3rd. It doesn't happen in other gears, or during downshifts. Also, it only happens in manual mode.
I've read some other information here about "2-3 clunk" or "3rd gear clunk" and it sounds like there is no solution, nor is it a problem in the long run (apparently happens on some 1st-gen vehicles too).
It doesn't really bother me, but I mentioned it last time my car was at the dealer, and their qc person said it was normal. Other posters have heard the same thing from multiple dealerships. I wouldn't worry about it. After all, the transmission is very good overall, and shifts very quickly.

Often a clunk (unless it's really hard) is actually a good thing, not a bad thing. A quicker shift feels less "smooth" but is actually better for the long-term life of the transmission.

It may not be something you want to fix.

I thought this was something really common with our cars.
I can avoid it 80-90% of the time if I let the RPM go past 3.5-4k and then shift during a slow to mild acceleration.
Under hard acceleration, I can't really control it, except letting off the gas and then shifting.

damn! i guess im not halucinating then! haha... thanks for the comments guys..
I guess i will still take it to the dealership and just have them document it, incase anything goes wrong down the road. I just found it weird that i either didnt notice it when i first got the car (or it didnt do it)..... And it also made me feel uneasy that it only did it from 1-2 and 2-3, and thats all...
I can live with it as long as its normal, but i just dont want it to lead to a bent shift fork or a bad synchro or something...
