Question Navigation auto zooming?

Hi,

My local Infiniti dealer lent me a G35x w/ Premium and Navigation over the weekend as I am thinking about buying one. The car's been great and we're really thinking of closing in on the deal soon.

However, I had 1 question regarding the navigation system. I think it has a lot of great features, perhaps a bit too many for me to figure out in the short time that I've had it. But 1 feature that I'm hoping is there, but perhaps not enabled is the capability for the navigation to automatically change the zoom level as you drive. For instance, on my Garmin, at high speeds like on a motorway, a lot of detail is removed, things like local roads and street names. So it zooms out to do this. At lower speeds, it's zoomed in, so that I see the local road that I'm on and the local roads around me.

Can the navigation system do this on its own?

Thanks!

Not sure, but when you have your destination set, and you approach, say a freeway exit, it gives you a tighter look at what's ahead, showing the lanes, etc, is that what you are asking about? Sounds similar. I haven't completely figured the nav out yet, LOL, so many neat toys to use on this car! One thing I've found, is when you do zoom, it gives a message that "building level" isn't available, not sure what that means.

The G doesn't auto zoom, but I know what you're talking about.

Then again, zooming in/out is just a voice command away.

That's too bad. I really like that zoom in/out feature as you change your speed. You don't even have to think about it. I don't need directions that often, but I like seeing the map as I'm driving, especially the road names because here in NJ, street signs are often not at the corner.

Thanks for responding!

Yeah I know what you're talking about, my friend's Garmin has it but no, our factory navi cannot do it. It does, however, have the lane departure feature which is my favorite thing about it that, as far as I know, no other navigational system offers. Its a great help in crowded city streets.

I think you mean lane guideance... the one where it tells you if the lanes split up ahead and whatever.

Lane departure is the most annoying thing that Infiniti has managed to put in this car, and that's the reason I didn't get the tech package. It nags you when it thinks you're out of your lane... maybe it thinks you're sleeping or something.

True, lane guidance. Good catch.
