Ashtrays? What year is this?

I finally bought my G this sunday and absolutely love the car. It an Ivory Pearl with the Premium and Sports packages. Everything seems thoroughly modern about the car except for one thing, ashtrays. I guess smoking is still common in Japan, but with most automakers gearing the cars towards Americans, or at least having different versions for us, I was surprised to see ashtrays for both the front and rear seat passengers. I don't remember the last car I looked at that had ashtrays standard, most offer a "smoking package" or something of the like.

This isn't meant to be a complaint, just an observation. It's easy enough to use the "ashtray" as a change cup or cell phone holder or whatever, just a little surprising. They also say to only use the lighter as a lighter port, not as a power outlet, which is a also little surprising. Does anyone make a kit the swaps out any of the "smoking accessories" for just cups and power outlets or anything else nifty?

i think mine is just a pocket... It's made out of plastic, aren't the "smoking ashtrays" made out of metal?

No.

Just wanted to point out that Benzes have enough ashtrays that nobody has to share an ashtray with anybody else.

I find it as a good thing. Some cars don't have change holders and even if they do, they don't pop out like the ones we have.
As for the lighter, I can see it being useful in emergency situations when you need to start a fire which is very unlikely to happen.

You'd be surprised how many people still smoke in their cars, it amazes me. Even when I smoked, I never smoked in the car, or in the house! I use mine for my cell phone!

i smoke in my car...i mean c'mon it's just a car . as for ashtray observation, i think more american companies do the "smoking package" thing where you have to purchase an ashtray from the dealership which is totally retarded. i think cars should come with simple amenities as ashtrays standard. as for cup holders, i don't ever use them because i don't drink in my car unless it's bottled water and it doesn't fit in the cup holders.

You're afraid to have drinks that can be bottled up in your car but not afraid to get nasty smell in your car?

Smoking in the car not only leaves a nasty smell, but makes a mess as well, and then makes the car hard to sell....................

I noticed that when opened, there are two depressions in the leading edge of the center console. Coin holders?

that's funny, i still have people saying my car smells new...i wouldn't mind buying a car from a inside-the-car smoker as long as there weren't any burn marks anywhere.

thanks TG, i'mma start putting the bottles there. good lookin out man.

well spilt drinks in my opinion can be more devestating for resale value than cigs. have you guys ever been in a car during the summer where someone spilt their coffee inside? smells like *****

Ashtrays make for good gum wrapper holders and other assorted small trash. You can easily pull it out and dump it too And, you can close the panel so you don't see unsightly doublemint wrappers chillin' in your car

My ipod nano fits perfectly in the ashtray.

I've never heard of a "smokers package."

Probably because I never asked.
