j/k, but seriously almost everyone I know with a roof rack has bashed their bike (which handily also damages the roof of the vehicle).

haha, thats true. pretty much everyone i know has wrecked theirs too. i just dont want to have to trim the bumper for a hitch, and i don't want a trunk mount. and it sucks taking my bikes apart and put one in the trunk, which sucks because when i'm traveling and have luggage i can't take my bike. i used to bike almost everyday until i got the G.

There was a bolt on that was made that fit where you didn't have to do any modifications to the bumper. I think it bolted in under the bumper then cleanly came out underneath it. Its all through this thread which is a combo of 1st gen and coupes talking, but I think it could be made for our car as well.
Let us know what you do...I'd be interested as well, because no way I'll put a trunk mounted one on my car and I too hate breaking my bike down all the time.

I had a roof rack on my last car and loved it...but it was a factory rack (Thule makes them for Volvo) so nothing touched the car. the rack attached in the rain gutter & had a bolt in each tower that held it all down.
I decided to go with the hitch rack on my 07 G because i did not want to Mount a rack on the roof. i would rather remove a small amount of bumper that you can not see, than have four big spots at eye level on the top of my car.
in my experience, aftermarket racks (Thule & Yakima) are not really easy to take on & off. so most avid cyclist end up just leaving them on the roof of their car. over time the towers will scratch your roof & if you leave them on the car long enough, they will prevent the paint from fading along with the rest of the car.
Just my 2 cents....
check out this thread for some pics of my set-up...(post #33-35)
