I think the shock for people is when you do your research and the reality isnt that close

Last night I took the G out on the highway and I was pleased the fuel economy was showing much better

Lately I have been doing all city driving since I got it so that has had negative impact

I wasnt looking for a Prius but to have it run closer to what the research told me to expect would be nice like 17 city 26 or so highway ( actually isnt the claim 19 city / 26 highway)

But I work at home and often drive only 4 miles a day so not that concerned!
Well, just driving that short 4 miles a day, you won't get optimal mpg, the car isn't even warming up in that distance. Also, don't expect the mileage to be great at first, no car meets it when new. On both my past G's, once I got 10k, my mileage was what it should be, or better!

Not that concerned is right! Wish I had that commute. Edmunds reports 17 city and 24 highway.

Yeah, and I wonder what the difference is between the '07 and the '08 that would change the EPA rating, my sticker reads 19 city 26 highway.

EPA has changed the way it estimates MPG.

Starting in model year 2008, estimates will reflect the effects of
  • Faster Speeds & Acceleration
  • Air Conditioner Use
  • Colder Outside Temperatures
  • What else do I need to know about the new ratings?
  • The tests lower MPG estimates for most vehicles.

Here is how the changes effected the 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan:

Eyes wide open. I agree with those that do their research before they buy.

Consumer Reports does independent mileage assessments and they still rated the G at the top of their category. (also rated the M at the top of theirs.) I was looking for the ideal combination of performance and comfort/luxury.

IMHO, Infiniti/Nissan nailed it.

do people still realistically think you can get economy gas sipping AND 300+HP performance? I dont get it.

What did you think the G would be? It's a high output V6, 3.5L, designed to haul as$. If you want gas sipping, buy a 4 banger, the altima would have been your better choice!

Thanks for the good info and the link. Seems more accurate to me. The EPA did something right for once!

it's also gearing, the corvette with the much bigger and higher hp output LS engine gets better mpg, but only hwy in high gear, for us a/t folks, we wished there was an extra gear for cruising instead of having such high rpms...

Okay, so it's just the way the EPA tests the cars now, cool.

And, no, I don't expect super gas mileage in a car that's as quick as our G35. But I think getting between 17-19 in town is fantastic for a car like this!

Rattle on seat belt is driving me nuts.
Thing doesn't retrack and always rattle against plastic.
Crappy tranny.
Cheapy leather.
No rear folding seats.

Nissan nailed far as pricing opposed to other compared cars out there.
But its lacking 2% off prefection.

Had 07 for about 6 months now and havnt started modding (my previous cars always been modified heavily).

Thinking about 335i and lease it down the road.

Gas mileage isnt bad, about 18.5 mixed local/freeway and thats exactly i was expecting.

Not sure if other nissan/infiniti has crappy auto tranny as this one. (1st nissan for me)
Seriously my parents camry drives better and much smoother.

i hear you on that one, a 6th gear would really help the hwy mpg's, but then the car's tranny would be constantly switching. i find 6gear a/t's, such as the new generation camry v6, the tranny is constantly shifting, as gears are "shorter" and it never knows which one to be in. sure, hwy mpg's on the camry will be better, but city driving would be brutal. this was the other car i was considering before grabbin the G. im happy i did the G

Nissan should step up their game, haha,
There are 7 speed auto's out for other luxury cars, and Lexus is coming out with their 8 speed auto, I wonder how that car drives...

I've had vehicles that did that, and it is one of the most annoying things a car can do, slightest incline and they would downshift, the G hangs in there in 5th, even on a very steep incline, never has been "hunting" gears!

When I tell people that I went from a SUV to a car, they start telling me how they don't blame me, that the gas mileage must be so much better. I love the shocked look on their face when I tell them, no, that the SUV got better gas mileage than the car. 22 verses 19 MPG. Boring verses HOT!
