Just picked up my car. Finally, the clutch feels the way is should & the chatter is negligible, as it should be. I can barely hear any flywheel noise over the engine (stock) and that's with the door open, in the garage, ear to the ground listening for it.

According to the service rep, the clutch slave recall calls for an inspection of the flywheel assembly. Upon inspection, Infiniti will determine if the flywheel assembly needs to be replaced or not. I asked the service tech if the flywheel recall was part of the clutch slave cylinder recall because I never received anything about it in the mail. She said that it is, but they did not state that on the recall letters because then many more customers might come in for a new flywheel when they do not need it, which would cost a lot more money.

I have attached a scanned copy of my service receipt sans personal info for your perusal.

Anyways, the clutch engagement feels 1,000 times better now. Too bad I drove 17,500 miles with crap clutch!

My 01 Corvette used to do the same thing. It stated in the owners manuel that it was normal.

Glad your G was fixed. Didnt mean to offend you before, I thought maybe you were talking out of your a.ss and complaining about a slight noise, but you obviously had REAL problems. Enjoy the car the way it was meant to be.

Did you ever hear this clatter/rattle when moving (slowly ?)
Or was it only when in neutral and idling with the clutch not depressed ?

^^

I Hear this noise while idling and moving slowly. Check this..

It seems to me engine temp affects it because when you start it, and park it the sound is significantly louder when the engines warmed up.

Before you turn it off, kill all the electronics just run the motor. Then flip on your brights, run the seat warmers, power windows ect ect, you can tell the extra strain on the engine or whatever it takes to compensate for that added power pull you just activated affects it.

I run the ACT Streetlite flywheel and disc clutch btw, wierd thing is standing UNDER the car in a pit while its making this sound it doesnt sound as distressing as it does sitting there with the door open hearing it from the drivers seat.

I have an 04 6MT with the same problem. I just had the clutch, pressure plate, and bearing replaced with brand new OEM ones, and I still have the exact same problem. Everything feels fine, just sounds like hell.

ok guys, i know what you are experiencing with when the clutch isn't pressed down you are getting rattling and all kinds of noises, and when you press it down, it stops. i took my car in 2 times for this, and they finally figured it out (with me there telling them what to look for, since they can't seem to do that themselves). this is what that said "Found clutch release bearing with excessive friction on the trans shaft, removed the clutch release bearing and lubed the bearing, sleeve and trans shaft". mine only made the noise after the recall was fixed. if you guys are getting the rattling or weird noises only when your clutch is not pressed down, have them check your clutch release bearing.

My understanding is the clutch release / throw-out bearing on these cars go out fast... especially after a few good launches.

Mine is coming back now after 3500 miles since the recall. Perhaps they lubed it when they did the install of the recall and it's coming back.

I'm REALLY happy (surprisingly) that this is not just me. I thought my clutch was about to melt on any random day, I don't drive my car hard 24/7, but I did, somewhat learn off my 07. I thought I might of did damage to the tranny from the start and thats why it makes that noise.

I hate that sound, it makes the car sound like crap, but what can you do. If there is a definite way to get this fixed without dime out of my pocket, posts are appreciated.

I already got the Slave Cylinder Recall btw.

Got my recall done.

I have this issue as well, I'm assuming it's normal. The car shifts and runs perfect. I'd prefer not to bring my car to the dealer for little issues like this. I had a hard enough time getting myself to bring it in for the slave cylinder recall and the I-key recall.

Good work is hard to come by these days.

Will keep checking this thread for updates.

chatter when shutting off without clutch being pressed

I need some input...
I guess the chatter is pretty normal. I only hear it if I switch below 3000 rpm... and sometimes I don't hear it at all. Sometimes I don't necessarily press my clutch when shutting off my car, and that's when the chatter is very noticeable. If I press the clutch while shutting off the car, there is NO NOISE whatsoever.

So... Do you guys hear the tranny chatter when you shut off your car and the clutch is not pressed in?

btw, I have a '06 M6 coupe

I've noticed whenever turning off the ignition, it rattles when the clutch is depressed and makes a clanking sound like the exhaust pipes are hitting something. When the clutch is pressed while turning off the ignition, the rattling is gone. Once in a while when the car is idling it makes that clanking sound as well. Took it to the dealer the other day and they told me that this is normal for 6mt. Now I just made it a habit to press the clutch while turning off the ignition to avoid embarrassment of a nice car sounding like crap.
