it is snowing...

Finally get to try out my new G35xS in snow today here in central NJ (I know I know, we probably only gotten like 2 inches so far). Anyway, warmed up the car at around 5pm leaving work, scrapped off some ice on the car, put it in "snow mode" and drove off.

Before I get on the highway I have to drive on a backroad parallel to the highway for about 1 mile. The road is not plow or salted at all, only some dirt they put on top from the township road truck. I was going at about 40mph with some traffic but they car feel very confident and never during that stretch I felt the wheel lost grip. The tires only have 600 miles on them so maybe they still preform like it should.

Made it home just fine but only to find out my dad with his 05' Altima got into an accident while the car in front of him lost contol and skidded into the divider, my dad in turn couldn't stop his car in time and hit him. Well, at least he is ok.

Just imagine if you had proper winter tires......the X would be a tank.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I just wanted to ask one question: I thought it is only necessary to put it into snow mode if you are stuck in snow or something and need 50:50 equal ratio. Or thats what my dealer said anyway. He said the G will automatically configure the ratio itself during inclement weather and there is no need to use the snow mode unless your stuck. Thoughts?

12mph actually. Snow mode disengages past 12mph.

It's been snowing since 1pm. I just drove home and it took 10 minutes longer than usual. AWD FTW.

I did see quite a few accidents on the way up though.

Awd disengages at 12 mph and then only activates when needed.
Snow Mode is not Awd... It cuts down on the amount of power to the wheels when gas is applied. It can be used anytime and I sometimes use it just to cut the power back when I'm not in a neck snapping mood

I think if you use the Snow Mode you are supposed to turn off the VDC. That is what I remember what the car dealer told me. I might be wrong though.

Not exactly.

Snow Mode reduces throttle sensitivity and locks ATTESA 50/50 F/R up to 12 MPH and then disengages after that and then the will direct power based on slip.

From a dead stop without Snow Mode on, "X" models always start at 25/75 F/R and then switch back to automatic sensing based on slip.

It is a great system.

I guess the question I would have to ask is: When starting out without Snow Mode, does the system switch to a greater than 25/75 split if it senses slipping....my guess is no. I tried it out on a fairly deeply covered side road yesterday. Without Snow Mode, the rear end started to fishtail pretty good at around 5 MPH. It wasn't until I switched back to Snow Mode that the car got some good grip.

Snow mode starts at 50/50 but as mentioned earlier, disengages after 12mph, then reverts to 27/75. Was your VDC off? I ask because I haven't had any fish tailing.

This is a very fun car in the snow so far. I came from a Volvo V70R and thought that was fun. I love the rear drive bias. The back end instantly kicks out, but very controllable. Having lots of fun today. Now just have to get a few more KM's on it to get close to break in point.
