Anyone know the price to replace windshield?

My wife was driving her '08 G35S with 180 miles on it, when she got a huge dime size rock chip in the windshield. Even though we know these things are going to happen, we both are pretty sick about it. Its not a subtle chip but one of the bigs ones that will show even if repaired.

I'm wondering how much replacement windshields run. We do not have the Tech package on the car.

Anyone have one replaced?

Thanks,

Rick

I just had mine replaced on my 05 X. The dealer wants close to $1400 with labor. I had a local shop replace mine with PPG glass for a tech package car for under $300. Cant tell the difference.

I used http://www.diamondautoglass.com/

I had my 04 G35s replaced for $275 out the door. They came to my office and installed it while I work. Liftetime guarantee on the installation. I had no wind noise; it was just as good as new.

I went with Safelite; nation wide, give them a call.

Thanks for the posts. At that price I may consider replacing since the car is so new. Its a really huge deep chip.

I know how this feels. Same thing happened to me within 2 weeks of getting my G last year.

Thanks Mike and all. I appreciate the feedback. So the aftermarkets are fine. Really, it would be hard to justify the $1K for replacement here in Houston when there is a good chance at some point down the road, she will pick up another chip.

So, did you live with the chip or get it replaced?

I dont know about your state but it should be covered under you insurance with no deductible. In florida it is. The front and drivers side windows are covered with no deductible for safety reasons. It might have to broken a little more though, hint hint. Check with your insurance company.

I just got it fixed. I get so many rock chips around here I couldn't justify a replacement. Chips have stabilized though. If I got another big one I would probably have windshield replaced.

Yeah, no kidding. It's made of the type of material that chips very easily!!

100's of tiny chips here and I rarely drive on the highway. Buy some cheap, durable glass.

Auto glass price can vary tremendously. The same duplicate glass can sell for $120 installed and $250 or even $600. Ask around.

Reason I have $0 deductible on comprehensive ($250 on collision) is because windshield replacement falls under comprehensive.
