How to Get Dealer Fix? G35 08 Washi Panel Rattles
Hi all,
I've seen some other recent postings on rattles. Mine are frequent and on the increase even though my car is only one month old with 900 miles. Has anyone gotten a dealer to correctly fix these, and if so, what did they do? I've done lots of online searching and have found a couple of posts that seem to indicate a similar problem to mine:
Smooth pavement is fine. When I drive on only moderately rough pavement, I hear a series of fairly high pitched rattles. Some have described as like the ticking of a clock. It's almost like few clicks of sound as if when you spin a bicycle spoke. Or maybe, a mosquito zapper high pitched metallic sound. (By the way, these rattles have nothing to do with the stereo-even if it's off I get the same annoying problem)
It's mainly coming from the right side. My best guess is that, since it's a metallic sound and coming from that area, it is in the washi panels, both front and back. I've grabbed the seat belts, etc., but that doesn't diagnose it.
It's driving me mildly crazy. My 8 year old BMW with 70,000 miles doesn't have a single rattle.
I hope some folks will weigh in as I really want to get this solved. I don't live near the dealer but will be taking it in two weeks from now to see if they can find it.

yess sir or ma'am the rattle went away after around 2000 miles, but maybe u should still take it to the dealer to have them look at it, i noticed with my car that the rattle would becme worse when the RPM's went above 3-3.5 but one day just woke up at it was all gone, i was acually thinkin it was the heater core, the 07's had a TSB on it but so far so good with my 08

Seat rattle
I had a similar issue with my 08. I have about 6000 miles on it now. I was hearing a similar clicking sound, much like you described it and it definitely was coming from the passenger side. However, if a person would ride with me to diagnose, it would not rattle. I finally figured out that it was the seat itself. With a person in the seat, it would suppress the rattle. It was only when no one was in the seat I would hear it. I played around with the adjustability of it and found that if I lifted the seat straight up for like half a second it made the rattle stop. So.....my seat stays lifted a small bit. Problem solved! Perhaps its the same thing???
Hope this helps.

I took my car to the dealer to try to diagnose this. They tightened something inside the door panels and the problem seems improved.
I asked them to add weatherstripping inside the aluminium washi panels on the doors and they said the aluminum doesn't come off. That's in contradiction to what I read in earlier posts.
