not a gearhead, but i wonder how difficult it is to dump vvel into our 3.5hr... probably need an ecu tune/reflash

direct injection would be great

Additionally, as far as "jumping on the direct injection bandwagon", it's not as simple as simply slapping DI onto the VQ. I couldn't agree with you more as I've been saying for a while that Nissan should jump on the DI train, but fitting both VVEL and DI into the VQs heads would be a major b**ch. Lack of room is the reason BMW has yet to combine direct injection with Valvetronic on their naturally aspirated straight 6 motors.
I don't work on package design and the engine compartment (I am a body and systems engineer at NNATC in Farmington Hills, Michigan), but I am relatively confident added size is not the reason BMW stays away from direct injection.

Hell, even a lowly $23,000 VW Passat has a direct injection 4 banger, and that is a relatively small, light motor.

VW/Audi is one of the few companies that has implemented direct injection across the majority of its line.

Rumor has it that Ford is planning on relying heavily on direct injection turbo charged motors to comply with the upcoming CAFE standards...

Not sure why Infiniti doesn't have direct injection, but I assume it is because it simply isn't readily available and compatible with the VQ series, as others have noted it would require a substantial retrofit.

I have no idea what Infiniti's strategy is regarding its overuse of the VQ engine, and de-tuning by a few HP there and here...it really makes the G35 and G37 nothing special, now that it is available in almost every vehicle they produce....even the new EX....but it is fantastic from a cost savings point of view.

Smile More pictures...

More pictures...

VQ37VHR inside the sedan engine bay...(Yes it fits!)

Upgraded interior...(Hard to tell because of poor lighting.)

New metal ***** for the seat heaters...(No ventilation, they're nicely damped, according to Edmunds.)

Vinyls, plastics, and leather are all/will be more matte finish...(Again, hard to tell because of lighting.)

Brushed aluminum door release handles...(Not shiny like current.)

And finally, the all-new VK50VE...(Wouldn't a G50 be cool?)

Yes, it is. That is why there are no current production BMW engines with both Valvetronic and Direct Injection. Valvetronic is not used in the N53, or N54B30 bi-turbo engine because of lack of room in the cylinder head. Also because of it's mass and complexity, Valvetronic is not efficient operating above 7000 RPM, thus not a good fit for use in BMW-M cars.

On the other hand, VVEL is 32% quicker to respond, 20% smaller, and uses 52% less parts per cylinder than Valvetronic. It also has a 7,500 RPM starting redline, unlike Valvetronic. Whether or not we will see VVEL and DI together for Infiniti, is still in question. Nothing has been stated as to if they can not be used together.

True, but none of their engines have VVEL, Valvetronic, A-VTEC, or Valvematic type technology.

Nissan has had DI choices in the non-USDM market:

VQ25DD
VQ30DD
VK45DD

IMO, an engine alone is not what makes a car "special" or not. It is the combination of everything that makes a car worthwhile. It just so happens that Nissan arguably makes the best V6 engine in the world. The fact is, they are utilizing economies of scale and the VQ is praised in every product that it occupies. Nissan is in the black, and why mess with a good thing?

LOL. Can't believe there was that loooong thread where people were insisting there would never be a G37 sedan because the VQ37 wouldn't fit.

From what I remember; one member (a Nissan tech IIRC) claimed that it wouldn't fit and everyone else just took it as truth.

The floor mats looks different, logo stitching in on the side. Area above ashtray of center console looks a bit different.

Regardless I'm still happy with my G35.

when I was purchasing my 08 G35S 6MT in November I asked my salesman if Infiniti was coming out with a G37 sedan in 09. He said that they were trying to diverge the sedan and the coupe. With the Coupe being the sports car and the sedan more of a luxury car. So the coupe would be the 3.7 liter and the sedan would remain a 3.5 liter. Now I relaize he did not want me to delay my purchase for a year. BASTARD SALESMAN. Foolish me for not seeing through his sales pitch. Anyway I am happy with the 08, I don't know if I could have put it off for another year anyway.

You don't know by now that car salespeople typically know very little about their product, and often times have the wrong information?

You just learned Car Buying 101, Lesson 1 the hard way, amigo.

No one cares about the stupid 335, stop posting 335 crap in this thread. If you have a hard-on for the 335 and must talk about it then do so in the correct forum.

Are the chances high that we'll hear something about the 2009 U.S. version at the New York auto show later this month?

Comparing engine technologies between competing cars is relevant to the discussion.

Pipe down.
