It would be interesting to see what the driving habits, maintenance frequency and oil products are of the couple of people who are using oil.
Just to see if there was something different.

no consumption to speak of as of yet. i recently purchased my g35x with 19k miles on there. had a fresh oil change from the dealer and i changed it at 23k. im at 26k now and its still on the high mark of the dipstick. i used mobil 1 synthetic oil. i drive it somewhat easy most of the time, but my foot hits the floor more than a couple times a day.

One odd thing is occasionally when I start it up, and the climate control is on fresh air - I get a "burnt oil" kind of smell in the car for a minute and then it is gone. If you walk around the car, or open the hood there is not any noticeable smell.... which makes this very puzzling .

As I said I have not seen any loss of oil - and it is very intermittent, so I've been waiting to see if it gets better/worse, or I can discern any kind of pattern. I really dont want to send the dealer on a wild goose chase and have them take a bunch of stuff apart to not find any problem
depends how u drive i had that same smell though its long gone. I am at 5000 something miles. I was there the first few days/weeks I had the car.

The 3 people with oil issues did not say who they were or the cicumstances, or if in fact it was a 2nd gen G35 Sedan.
I don't know if we can really count them unless they do elaborate.

It's too bad we did not have the poll where you can view who voted.

Sorry but I've been away from this thread since I voted in the oil consumption poll: 1/2 qt down between changes. I am a very spirited driver but fanatical about oil. I check the oil every other fill up and no more than 3250 miles between changes.

Because I had an oil burning '97 VR6 VW Passat, I am sensitive, maybe too sensitive, about engine oil. I bought some dino Castrol and put it in my trunk when I noticed the consumption problem. And had to use about 1/2 qt all told between oil changes. Maybe I'm not waiting long enough --5-6 minutes-- for the oil to drain before I look at the dipstick.

Infiniti service has my complaint on all my service records. But they found nothing at 7500 or 11,250 mile maintenance services. And to be honest I've noticed no consumption problem in the last 1500 miles.

I am an Amsoil guy and wanted to switch to their new 0-30 blend but am wary about doing so with the consumption problem. I put the Amsoil in my old Passat anyway and just kept topping it to 1.4 qt low, which VW recommended.

Any feeedback much appreciated.

There should be a separate poll for 6mt and Auto.

Only the previous 6mt G35's had the oil consumption.

Why should there be 2 separate polls for auto & 6mt? They have the SAME motor. The v35 had 2 different motors in them.

Nissan owner's manuals say to wait 10 minutes before checking the oil level, but I typically wait at least 15 and sometimes 30. Seems to get more accurate/repeatable results.

I bought an 06 three months ago with only 14K miles on it, so I'm trying to get a feel if this is an issue for my car. (And no, I did not vote here) So far, it's 8mm down on the dipstick after 3K miles so it's in the 'good' range according to the TSB, but obviously more consumption than I was hoping for. My fear is that it will continue to increase, but time will tell.

Honda Accord
V35 motors had 2 different motors. First gen VQ35DE and second gen VQ35DE revup.

Some are you are just paranoid if you are worried about ~1/2 a quart of oil consumption in a 3500 mile interval. That's absolutely nothing to worry about.

One of the many characteristics of the VQ35 is that it eats up a little more oil than other motors out there, though it isn't uncommon to see other higher revving engines do the same.

Hi guys - I was pondering about buying a 2009 G37x (new) but due to cost, I'm seriously thinking about a 2007 G35x (used). One thing I'm wondering if the chance of oil consumption if a reason to go with the 09 G37 instead of 07 G35?

Is there any reason to think that oil consumption will be higher on the 07 after 5 years than the 09 in 7 years? (ie: did nissan fix anything like rings on the new 3.7L engine?)

I use 4.5 quarts Mobil 1 extended life full synthetic and .5 quarts of Marvel Mystery oil since first oil change at 3k miles.

Most recent change was a 11k miles with ABSOLUTELY NO loss in oil levels.

I chalk it up to the Marvel Mystery oil creating an incredibly smooth and polished cylinder wall. I also use 4 ounces of Marvel Mystery every other fill-up to keep injectors and valves in tip top shape.
