VQ35HR Oil Consumption Poll

This poll is only for VQ35HR engines and NOT VQ35DE motors.

I'm sure most have seen the VQ35DE oil consumption threads. My '02 Maxima with VQ35DE has around 70K miles and does not use any noticeable oil at all between 7-8K mile oil changes. I am curious if anyone is experiencing any consumption issues with their HR. My G at around 11K miles does not have any noticeable consumption either. Both motors are always at the full mark.

Zero oil consumption between changes every 5000 KMs.

Same - and my '03 Max with 80k miles on it (sister-in-law bought it, so it's still sort of in the family) does not have oil consumption issues either.

My engine is too new to evaluate... so far no issue. 6500 miles on my ride.

My daughter has over 20,000 miles on her G35 and I just went over 15,000 on mine, and I change our oil myself every 3500-4000 miles(hers is Valvoline 5w30 and I use Valvoline Synthetic 5W30), with no oil usage at all between changes.

nissan engines, especially the VQ35's and QR25's are very picky. if you start pushing your oil change intervals to 8,9,10k KM between service's the engines start comsumming oil like crazy. i'm a tech apprentice at a nissan/infiniti dealership and i've had a few cars come in that were pushing 10k KM since there last oil change and i only ended up drain 1/3 to 1/2 of of the amount of oil that there was supposed to be in there. and don't be too concerned about how dark your oil is when you change it. nissan engines blacken oil very quickly. it's kinda gross... no sludge though

Actually for my 2003 VQ35DE Maxima, i used synthetics (AMSOIL series 2000 oil and filter) and changed it every 3500kms (not miles). And i did this after my 3rd oil change at about 10,000kms (1st oil change 1000kms, 2nd oil change 5,000kms, 3rd oil change 10,000kms).

at about 35 to 40,000kms, i was burning about 1L for every 1000kms. By 4000 kms, i was OUT OF OIL, no oil reading on dipstick.

If you ask me, its really pathetic!!

no noticeable consumption - although I am only at 4100 miles.

One odd thing is occasionally when I start it up, and the climate control is on fresh air - I get a "burnt oil" kind of smell in the car for a minute and then it is gone. If you walk around the car, or open the hood there is not any noticeable smell.... which makes this very puzzling .

As I said I have not seen any loss of oil - and it is very intermittent, so I've been waiting to see if it gets better/worse, or I can discern any kind of pattern. I really dont want to send the dealer on a wild goose chase and have them take a bunch of stuff apart to not find any problem
