Quote: Kring: Very good explanation which makes a lot of sense. I guess what concerned me was that in regular AUTO mode, 3rd gear is smoother. Even though I'm driving......OMG..... 38 years, and driven a number of different cars and SUVs, abrupt shifts in the Trannys usually spelled trouble. But the G is a different animal with SWELL accelration.... Love this car!!
Regular auto will drag out the change from 2nd to 3rd to make it smoother when below 1/2 throttle, but even in regular D mode if you get on the gas it will still have the hard shift.

Early on I didn't use it much, but lately I'd say I'm using it roughly 90% of the time.

I'm surprised that there are owners who have never tried it.

What if the 2-3 shift bangs hard enough to make the dash creak? That's what mine does. I'd say 25% of the time it's extremely harsh, very unpredictable as well. I stopped using mine because of it. I understand quick and firm, but this is quite rediculous. It happened the other day with the wife in the car, she said "WTF was that?" She thought we hit something. I told her "that's our 40G car we bought." haha!

Ease on the throttle a bit.

I've eliminated 90% of the jerks/bangs from 2-3 shift by letting the RPM needle go past 3k and then shifting up. I still get jerks 70~% of the time when I floor it all the way upto the redline and shift.

Oh and also, do NOT let go of the gas when you are shifting up/down. It'll make your car feel/drive much smoother.

would you save gas by using manual mode and shifting early as supposed to holding gears longer?

no, just put it in standard D mode, that will be the most gas efficient way to drive the car. I think it puts it into 5th by 25mph

Quote: yeah, me too. It's horrible on gas millage though lol. I use it pretty extensively now that I has the paddles.
+1 Pretty sure this is why my gas mileage sucks...and why I have a smile on my face every time I drive the G

I get 20.2 or something. I floor it at least 5 times a day... but then 90% of the miles on my car is highway.

0% of mine is highway...well, maybe 5% Which not only involves waiting at lights, stop signs etc., and slowly trolling through at 40 mph - it also promotes opportunities to experiment with acceleration curves...

It's not really a mystery to me why my mileage sucks

+1, not much highway to play around with here in Vancouver. Heading to Seattle next month, can't wait.

I still use it 99% of the time. (After having it fixed)
My 2-3 bang is gone but now there seems to be a bang @ 3-4 lol. Not extreme, just a little one.
