Navigation question
Navigation question
I just got the g35x sedan this past Tuesday, black on black, premium package. I love it so far, but I have one problem. The nav does not recognize many streets or landmarks when I try to put them in for directions. I'm in NYC so its not like its a remote area. Anybody know if there is some kind of update I can do for the maps or something along those lines? Any help is much appreciated.

I tried, still an issue.
Ok so I just went and checked and my region is set correctly. It is still not recognizing some streets on Long Island which have been around for over 30 years and a TGIF Friday's restaurant that has been around for at least 10 years. I'm just using those as examples. Wouldn't you think that the maps should pick up places such as those??? Anything else I can try?

The voice recognition is for 'standard' english, and different accents, such as a NY accent, will throw it off.
Go into settings, others, turn on alternative command mode, and an expanded menu will come up with voice adaptation.
Go through that voice adaptation process and you should have no problems.
Not using voice
Thanks for trying to help me Mike. I have not been using the voice recognition at all for the nav. I've been entering everything manually. It's just weird that it is not recognizing a lot of very common places that have been around for a while. Any other suggestions??? Thanks again.
More then likely it's just poor mapping. I have the same problem here in Houston. The system as a whole is very good, but the maps are crap compared to aftermarket units.

Actually there is some debate about Zenrin using Navteq maps. They are no longer partners, and Zenrin is no longer listed as a user of Navteq maps, nor do Zenrin list Navteq as one of the sources for their maps.
Either way, they are not using the same Navteq maps that the aftermarket units are, as I have no problems with my Garmin Nuvi, or my buddies TomTom.
Most of the issues we are having are not "new construction" but roads that have been there 10-15 years. I've also had problems with it taking me down roads that don't (have never and will never) exist.
I've learned to live with it....but it is a problem.

You can always call Zenrin tech support. I would go to an Infiniti dealership and see if another G35 can find the streets. If the streets have been there that long, I have a hard time believing they can't be found. I just purchased Zenrin 7.3 update disk for our Nissan Quest and while it doesn't have all of the new streets, it does have reference to them as "future". Generally digital maps are up to 3 years behind paper maps.
If the address number is out of range, then the street is automatically eliminated.
Also, when you enter the street, specify N/S/E/W and st/ave/bl etc.

That's one reason I decided against the Nav package with my G. In my experience over the years, the portable Garmins provide much better routes and guidance in comparison to in car Nav's. Not to mention the price difference.
