I just averaged over 26 MPG on a tank of gas- click to see how
check tire pressure. make sure fluids are good, spark plugs are good and just enjoy.
drove today on freeway at 65 b/c was early for an appt. and i felt like i was doing my car a dis-service. I just can't do that low of speeds. sure gas was great during that time but i wanted a bag over my head b/c i felt like grandpa.

yeah, it's so difficult to get good mileage w/ auto, it doesn't shift until at least 3k everytime it seems... led foot...

I get about 18-19mpg with a mix of city and freeway in my 6mt. If I drive conservatively like you, I'll get an extra 100+ miles with the same tank. At over $4 a gallon now, that means I'm spending an extra $20 for the thrill of driving the G, passing people quickly, avoiding stupid drivers, and not to mention reaching my destination sooner.
I paid over $35k for my G, so I'm going to drive it like it's meant to be driven.
(I'm not driving roughly or anything, just ... sportier than I would in a normal sedan.)

I have a 6M-
This was with 70% freeway driving-
First the experiment-
I ran the car on flat freeway for several 8 mile stretches-
At 75 MPH- I got 23 MPG
At 70 MPH- I got 26 MPG
At 65 MPH- I got over 28 MPG-
Street
When accelerating- I barely pushed gas-
when shifting at 3000 RPM- I got 19 MPG
when shifting at 2000-2400 RPM I got 21 MPG
when I shifted at 1800 RPM I got 23 MPG
Using what I learned- I just averaged over 26 MPG on a tank of gas-DOMO

But did Infiniti/Nissan engineers actually test both the 5A and 6M transmissions before they put them in the G35/350Z?!?
It just seems beyond reasoning that they could overlook something as simple as improving fuel economy in these vehicles. The DE and HR has more than enough low end power to cruise at 2100-2400 RPM @ 75-80mph.....

Might as well buy a Prius.

Hint obtaining better gas mileage isn't difficult if you monitor your acceleration while driving. Simple way to really check it to open your Fuel Maintenance chart that indicates a bar going either side to side, or up and down; depending on whether you're using the dash controls, or nav screen. I've average high 20's. On a full tank, I usually get 360-380 (for my driving routine).
Why do people have such negative comments? The OP just proved that you could get decent gas mileage if you wanted to. Feel free to step on it and have some fun otherwise. The choice is yours.
A Prius will get you great gas mileage, but you'd be SOL if you were in the mood for driving excitement.
The world is not black and white. It's ok to want a car that's fun-to-drive and decent on gas when it's not being pushed.
