sorry i didnt reply sooner for ya Its a love hate thing with the SMG tranny. It can be very herky jerky. Im going the opposite way and turning my BMW in to get a G. For the money you cant compare. I have had several BMW's and just got tierd of always spending an extra $10-$15 grand. Not to mention doing any mods to the car is sooooooooo much more with the BMW

Haha- well, I actually went and test drove the new G8, I really liked it. Best part is, I could lower my payments quite a bit, keep a few k to pay some other bills, and gain some power.

Granted, I would lose some sweet options that the G has, but most of them I dont really use. I am also already figuring out my options for the Nav and Backup camera. I dont wanna do without those... the others, I think I can live without.

I would be gaining a good bit of power! The car drives and handles as well or better than the 550i I drove yesterday (and it shifts normally). It has the same DS and manual shift mode as our auto trannys. Overall, its a pretty sweet deal. I have to make a decision tomorrow, either buy the G8 or get my G35 back.... should be a restless night! haha

How's that G8 on gas consumption? Anyone know?
And has Pontiac upped their game in the field of reliabilty at all?

Gawd... just go and get the G back already!

This thread, and the drama of what's coming next is killing me!
You went from the G, to a 550, and then to a G8?
What's next, the Hyundai Genesis?

J/K, but honestly, I hope this story has a happy ending!

Yeah, imagine my pain and anguish. Especially after all the travel and headaches yesterday! It will all be done (for now) tomorrow. I need a car! I will either be picking up the G35 or the G8. Stay tuned! haha. As far as reliability, my buddy has an 05 GTO that has been great, no issues, etc etc. The Holden Pontiacs are better, I hope!

I THINK the gas mileage was something like 19/24. Dont remember exactly, I know my buddies GTO does about 2 MPG better than its rated, hoping this one would do the same! Oh, its FAST!

Hokie,

Why are you looking for something new? I definately wouldn't get a G8. A 550 to a G8? What would be your reasoning?

Im in the same situation as you. I think my 08 G will go up for sale so that i can get another supra. The G is amazing but the more i think about it the more i miss the supra. This decision is so hard for me to make

I love my G, this whole thing has been in set in motion basically b/c I am tired of wearing out the tires in 12k miles b/c of camber issues from being lowered. I am also tired of driving the car lowered and dodging everything and parking at the bottom of everyones driveway etc etc. I know I can raise the car back up on the stock springs and put the stock wheels back on, but the car doesnt really appeal to me much in that condition. I have the 17" stock wheels. So, I started looking for something that I would be more happy with stock that I wouldnt want to lower and make a pain for myself.

So, the 550i was the first choice. One of my requirements was that I did not want to raise my payments at all, so I was looking at used 550is, mostly 06s. I dont think I can find one that is suitable for me in the price range I am willing to spend, so, I took a look at the G8.

I realize in making this move I would lose some cool options, but they are mainly ones I never use, such as the music storage and ICC. I will be adding aftermarket in dash Nav and backup camera systems to the G8 b/c I would miss that too much to not have it. I will miss the accessibility of just touching the door handles to get in the car, and push button start. In exchange I would get remote start. Gas mileage is a little better in the G35, of course the V8 power (361HP/385 ft/lbs torque) in the G8 is the trade off. The car honestly drove and handled right on par with my G35 and was actually smoother and quieter than my car. Probably b/c of the road noise and vibration I get from my cars camber issues and uneven tire wear...

Anyways- all 3 are great cars, they all have their perks. For the money, the G8 and G35 outperform the BMW in my book. If I could afford $65k for a new 550i things would be different probably.

Dude!! Keep the G! You can't beat the bang-for-buck ANYWHERE except MAYBE an IS350. Just raise it back up on stock springs and get yourself a set of G37 wheels! Either that or get the camber fixed! Don't join the dark side of the German Overpriced Luxury Sedan market!!

wait a minute.. did you just say a stock pontiac looks more appealing to you than a stock g35?
i cant argue that 360hp would be fun.. but for me, i would never buy a pontiac for its looks.
