Do the paddle shifters give you quicker shifts?
Do the paddle shifters give you quicker shifts?
I'm shopping for a G35x and am wondering if the paddle shifters included in the 2008 sport package change the shift pattern or speed over the manually controled shifts available with the console shifter?
Nope, they are no different than using the shift on the console.... but I find the left paddle (downshift) comes in handy quite a bit when I need a quick downshift. I don't need to pop the shift into manual mode... I just tap the paddle.

Well, by theory the answer would be yes, because you can shift at whatever point you want (for the most part). The other modes (D and DS) depend on how fast you're going, or how quickly you accelerate. What I do love about having the paddle shifters is that I call the shots! I downshift when I want, I can wind out the gear if I need to, whatever the case may be. If you don't want to worry about taking your hands off the wheel, and messing with the clutch for that perfect shift, then I say get the paddles my friend. You will enjoy every second of it. Plus it makes it easier to do this: Roll in nice and slow, then . . .wait for it.....wait for it . . . . .http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/c...NGCmeet027.flv.

I will say it makes the actuation faster (i.e. I can click down a couple shifts with the paddles faster than I can pull the stick back twice), but the tranny shifts the same way.

When I shift with the paddles it is significantly quicker than shifting with the +/- on the shifter.
It is especially noticeable at part throttle. The shifter at part throttle shifts slowly and smoothly, the paddles shift quickly and snappy (not smooth). It's not even a slight difference, at part throttle, it's a HUGE difference.
At full throttle, leaving the car in D "feels" the fastest. i.e. it throws me back the hardest during the shift and with VDC off is the most likely to break the tires loose.
But, from what I've heard from a couple people who've taken their vehicles to the track, they all got the best times using the paddles (vs. D or the shifter).
So, IMO, the jury is still out.

At WOT, I don't notice much of a difference. At part throttle, I notice a huge difference. Paddles at part throttle seem to shift as hard/fast as full throttle.
Compared to the shifter at part throttle seems to shift as slow as D at part throttle.
